Job Summary
As a
Senior Accounts Payable (AP) Accountant at Coterra
, you are responsible for performing and overseeing complex accounts payable functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely execution of financial operations. Your role supports audits, tax reporting, system improvements, and vendor data integrity while managing critical reconciliation and reporting tasks. As a Senior AP Accountant you will collaborate across departments and serves as a subject matter expert in AP operations. This position is located onsite at our Houston, Texas headquarters.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES•Prepare and file Escheatment reports in accordance with state unclaimed property laws.
•Oversee all 1099 Compliance Activities, including vendor maintenance reviews, year-end printing, mailing, and filing of 1099 forms, and processing of any required corrections to ensure IRS compliance.
•Manage and respond to Auditor Requests and prepare Audit Confirmations as required.
•Perform Outstanding Checks Review to identify uncashed items and initiate resolution or escheatment processes.
•Generate and analyze the Duplicate Invoice Report to prevent and resolve duplicate payments.
•Conduct PA Withholding Audit Reviews to ensure tax compliance with state regulations.
•Manage the Open Credits Report, ensuring credits are applied or refunded in a timely manner.
•Complete AP Reconciliations (ARCS), reconciling AP balances with the general ledger.
•Support and execute AP Close activities, including journal entries and accruals.
•Confirm EFT Enrollments, validating vendor banking details to prevent fraud.
•Support Corporate Card Administration, including account setup and maintenance.
•Participate in IT Testing and System Upgrades related to AP platforms.
•Conduct Vendor Master Cleanup to maintain accurate and compliant vendor records.
•Assist with A Hoc Special Projects as assigned by leadership.
•Process and reconcile Purchase Card Wires and associated reporting.
•Process and reconcile SUA Card Wires and ensure transaction accuracy.
•Provide OI (OpenInvoice) User Training Support, helping internal users navigate the AP system.
Skills And Experience
•Strong knowledge of AP processes, month-end close, and tax reporting (1099, escheatment, etc.)
•Proficiency in accounting systems (Oracle EBS preferred) and electronic invoicing platforms (OpenInvoice)
•Data Analytics, SQL, PowerBI, all highly preferable
•High attention to detail with strong analytical and reconciliation skills
•Ability to manage high-volume workloads while meeting deadlines
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•Experience with audit coordination and internal control compliance
•Self-starter with ability to manage projects and work independently
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Education Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Years Of Experience
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience accounting experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry
Travel Requirements
•Less that 5% Some travel may be required for training purposes.
