ROLE:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for compilation, analysis, interpretation, and summarizing of financial data used in financial statements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:•Prepare monthly financial statements including consolidations, supporting schedules and journal entries.
•Prepare financial and variance analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
•Oversee chart of accounts, track and monitor financial information.
•Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information and performing variance analysis.
•Assist with monthly management reporting, analyzing trends and actual results vs. budget and forecasts.
•Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
•Support month-end and year-end close process, including assistance with external audits.
•Monitor and make recommendations on potential improvements to internal financial controls and processes to increase efficiency.
•Ensure corporate accounting and tax requirements are delivered.
•Ensure accurate, timely and consistent flow of information between partners.
•Assist with cash management and bank covenant requirements.
Note: In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:•Bachelor of Commerce degree or related field is required.
•CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Designation
Experience:
•Minimum of five years of experience as an Accountant or similar position, preferably in the construction industry.
•Two or more years of post-designation experience with accounting reporting experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
•Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
•Accuracy and attention to detail.
•Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality.
•Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
•Ability to take initiative when there is limited structure or direction.
•Critical thinking, logical analysis and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
•Proficient with MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
•Understanding of the pipeline construction industry is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent position based at our Calgary head office with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days. Extended work hours may be required to meet fixed reporting deadlines.
