About this opportunity

Working in tandem with Eastern’s other Safety Coordinator, this position is responsible for coordinating safety and regulatory compliance for Eastern. This position communicates all safety related information to employees. Job duties include developing training programs, managing jurisdictional systems compliance, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and performing safety and compliance inspections. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations and company policies, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize are essential.

What your role will look like

Act as a leading resource in safety by maintaining current knowledge base of compliance-related expectations of Eastern, the fuel industry, and all jurisdictions within which Eastern operates.
Prioritize ongoing education to be at the forefront of evolving policy and best practices in all safety matters.
Act as Safety Committee chair; plan and lead safety meetings.
Conduct safety inspections, field inspections, and regulatory compliance inspections.
Perform accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis. Report findings to all stakeholders.
Aide managers with employee field evaluations and recommend training needs.
Participate in Eastern’s Incident Response management by monitoring the Main Incident Response line and coordinating emergency response personnel.
Respond to the scene of emergencies as needed, potentially after hours or on weekends and holidays.
Assist in the regulatory reporting requirements for hazardous materials incidents.
Develop monthly Safety Meeting topics and material; distribute content and provide direction to leadership team; participate in district meetings as necessary.
Develop and conduct training in the following concentrations as needed.
+ Safety + Technical + Emergency Response + SOP content and process improvements
Review and update SOPs regularly; develop new SOPs based on company needs and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with the Supply team to develop and maintain Operation Plans, Maintenance Plans, Fire Safety Analysis Plans, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans. Coordinate with third-party services when a more thorough review is required or when updates are made to the facility.
Review Eastern’s DOT Compliance, Safety, Accountability report frequently and provide a quarterly report to management.
Review, update, and maintain the following written plans, including communication and dissemination of program updates.
+ Operator Qualification Plan (OQ) + Operations, Maintenance, and Emergency Plan (OME) + Distribution Integrity Management Plan (DIMP) + Fire Safety Analyses (FSA) for all qualifying accounts + Public Awareness
Act as Regulatory liaison with State Public Utility officials. Oversee mandatory Federal and State filings.
Coordinate and participate in any formal regulatory compliance issues, field inspections, and audits with the States.
Coordinate quarterly odorant testing and verify documentation of testing in each district.
Maintain accurate list of Eastern’s jurisdictional accounts.
Be receptive to and successfully complete other duties as assigned.


What you’ll bring to this role

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the fuel industry.
Licensure/Certification:
+ Active gas license; oil experience preferred. + OQ for all covered tasks performance by Eastern technical employees. + Valid state Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Working knowledge of National Fire Prevention Association Code including the ability to adeptly navigate and interpret the following codes:
+ Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment (NFPA 31) + National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54) + Storage and Handling of Liquefied Propane Gas (NFPA 58)
Working knowledge of industry-specific rules and regulations within Eastern’s operational footprint.
