About This Job

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for working with our Safety Director to ensure compliance with Utili-Serve environmental, health and safety (EH&S) procedures and to assist in the achievement of a safe work environment for all personnel. The Safety Coordinator must deal with day-to-day issues and find suitable solutions under sometimes difficult circumstances. The candidate must have an excellent command of decision-making and problem-solving techniques and are able to apply them appropriately. A Safety Coordinator must be able to travel to various field site as directed by the Safety Director which may include travel to another state depending on customer demands.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Assist, plan and implement EH&S policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT). Also insures adherence to customer’s EH&S rules and regulations.
Assist in planning and implementation of training for employees in work site EH&S practices.
Maintains safety files and records including OSHA 300 log.
Assist Safety Director with post-accident investigations and prepares reports identifying possible accident cause and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
Assist, set up, and conduct required safety training for employees and maintain all safety training records within our Learning Management System (LMS).
Maintains and updates Utili-Serve’s EH&S manual.
Assist crews with adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety rules and regulations.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or three to five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulatory requirements.
Clear understanding of OSHA, DOT, and EPA requirements.
Successful completion of OSHA 10 and 30 hour Construction Safety and Health training.
Minimum five years of experience in the electrical utility industry, specifically substation construction and maintenance arena. Demonstrate a clear understanding, as well as have ample knowledge of substation construction, substation maintenance mobile installs and removals, and working knowledge of distribution and transmission lines.
Must be knowledgeable in “electrical safe work practices.”
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction drawings, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations and create site-specific environmental, health, and safety plans.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively create and present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and employees.
Excellent computer, communication, and training skills.
Advanced skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and Power Point.
Must possess or be able to obtain qualified trainer certification for Confined Space Program, Forklift and Aerial Work Platform operator.
Must have a valid current driver’s license – CDL preferred.
