Risk Management - Corporate Shared Services

The Risk Management group plays a vital role in safeguarding the integrity, reputation, and financial stability of our professional services consulting firm. Specializing in projects that shape the built environment, ranging from public infrastructure like transportation networks and water systems to private sector site developments, the group proactively identifies, evaluates, and manages risks across all stages of project delivery and business operations.

Working closely with project teams, executive leadership, legal counsel, and external partners, the Risk Management team ensures that contractual, operational, regulatory, and financial risks are properly assessed and mitigated. From negotiating risk provisions in contracts and overseeing insurance programs to monitoring compliance and guiding strategic decision-making, the group provides a robust framework that supports informed choices and resilient project execution.

Summary

We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Risk Manager to join our dynamic team, specializing in built infrastructure projects across both public and private sectors. The Risk Manager will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project and enterprise-level risks to ensure successful delivery of complex infrastructure initiatives—including transportation, water resources, utilities, and site development.

In this position, you will work cross-functionally with project managers, technical teams, and executive leadership to develop proactive risk management strategies that align with business objectives, contractual requirements, and regulatory standards. Your expertise will guide the firm through risk identification and analysis, insurance and claims management, contractual risk review, and the development of mitigation plans throughout the project lifecycle. Identify, analyze and classify operational and insurable risks for financial impact to corporation including expected frequency, trends and severity.

Formulate and review professional service contracts and subcontracts.
Maintain and apply knowledge of applicable industry laws and regulations.
Manage and assist with selecting appropriate risk financing techniques and implements insurance programs and policies to minimize loss, such as avoidance, loss prevention and reduction, retention, transfer, grouping of exposure units, and transfer.
Manage DOWL’s business and professional licensing.
Review and recommend edits of office, property, and equipment leases.
Ensures and/or facilitates adequate communication concerning key risks.
Assist with various projects by conducting quality control/quality assurance.
Utilize DOWL’s Risk Information System (RIMS) and other industry software in the evaluation and management of risk tasks.
Draft and deliver reports and presentation outlining findings, identifying and explaining potential risks and recommended solutions.
Support and carry out actions regarding DOWL’s Health and Safety Program.
Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Four-year accredited college degree, required.
Three years of increased responsibility in risk or business management.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Relevant risks or business management certification, preferred but not required (e.g. CRM, PMP, ERM, RIMS-CRMP)


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Productive in working in a close-knit team to support the rest of the organization.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
Proficient or ability to become proficient in a short amount of time with the operational characteristics, services, and activities of a comprehensive risk management and safety program.
Experienced with insurance principles, practices, and terminology of loss reduction and loss control, as well as claims management, claims adjusting, and subrogation.
Knowledgeable of OSHA and state reports (such as OSHA 300) and poster requirements related to safety and workers compensation.
Ability to read, interpret, and disseminate information contained in loss reports.
Understanding of general contract terms and conditions including indemnification provisions.
Proficient operating modern office equipment to develop word processing, produce technical writing, research databases, conduct investigations, conducting research and development.
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to exercise strong multi‐tasking and organizational skills while working in a fast paced environment to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines without impact to operations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases.
