POSITION OVERVIEW – Research Technician I - This is an R&D laboratory technician position in the Renewable Fuels team in Build for Tomorrow unit under Molecular Conversion department. This position supports experimental research and development work in renewable and hydrocarbon fuels, working under the guidance and supervision of research engineers and chemists. The position is dynamic and requires a variety of laboratory skills depending on the project need. This is a safety sensitive position.
RESPONSIBILITIES* Maintain a safe and well-organized laboratory environment complying with Richmond Technology Center safety standards.
•Handles sample collection, storage and submission for analysis.
•Handle potentially toxic substances and a broad variety of renewable and petroleum derived materials.
•Perform various laboratory activities such as blending, heated filtration, rotavap, sieving, grinding as well as other wet chemistry techniques such as titration.
•Handle basic maintenance and troubleshooting for test equipment.
•Need to lift five-gallon cans in sampling and blending.
•Maintains accurate and complete records of work to support processes transfer, scale-up and intellectual property protection.
•Maintain a high degree of independence, responsibility, reliability, and accountability in planning and conducting experiments. Work effectively under pressure of multiple deadlines.
•May conduct lab work over weekend and holidays as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:* B.S. in Chemistry or related field, or equivalent work experience in an industrial research environment
•Proficient in standard Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
•Able to wear a respirator for chemical/catalyst handling.
•Demonstrated experience working in a safety sensitive laboratory environment and complying with safety-related guidelines.
•Demonstrated track record in executing delicate laboratory work and generating data while maintaining accuracy and repeatability standards.
•Ability to work with complex tasks, complex projects, and multiple tasks at the same time
•Proven experience working within a team environment and drawing on knowledge and skills of other research engineers/chemists.
•Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
•Strong mechanical skills repairing and modifying equipment preferred
