The B.O.S.S. (Black Owners of Solar Services) Healthcare Integration Project seeks four talented graduate students to support our innovative initiative exploring the integration of Black-owned solar energy solutions in hospitals serving BIPOC communities. This comprehensive internship program offers hands-on experience in renewable energy, healthcare sustainability, economic analysis, case study development, and community engagement.
Interns will work directly with project leaders, technical consultants, and diverse stakeholders while gaining valuable skills in project management, research, stakeholder engagement, and technical analysis. The program includes two full-time summer intern positions (Interns A & B), each with a unique focus area aligned with project needs and timeline.
The Research & Assessment Specialist Graduate Intern (SUMMER INTERN - A) will support the project's foundation-building activities and hospital needs assessment phases. This role involves conducting literature reviews, supporting stakeholder mapping, developing assessment methodologies, and participating in data collection and analysis for hospital energy assessment.
The ideal candidate for this position is a methodical researcher with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. They thrive in structured environments but remain adaptable to changing priorities. They possess technical aptitude combined with excellent communication skills, allowing them to translate complex energy data into accessible insights. Their empathetic approach and cultural competence enable productive engagement with diverse stakeholders during interviews. This person is intrinsically motivated by environmental justice and healthcare equity issues, bringing passion along with their technical capabilities.
● Conduct comprehensive literature review on hospital energy systems, solar integration, and energy equity
● Assist in developing standardized assessment methodology for hospital energy evaluation
● Participate in hospital site visits and energy audits alongside technical experts
● Compile and organize energy usage data from participating hospitals
● Analyze energy patterns to identify common needs and vulnerabilities
● Document hospital decision-making structures related to energy procurement
● Support the development of preliminary case study outlines
● Assist in organizing and documenting stakeholder meetings
● Prepare research summaries and contribute to assessment reports
● Current graduate student in engineering, public health, sustainability, urban planning, or related field
● Interest in renewable energy and healthcare sustainability
● Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
