JOB SUMMARY:
A commercial refrigeration technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems in commercial settings like grocery stores, restaurants, and warehouses, including diagnosing malfunctions, replacing faulty parts, recovering refrigerant, and ensuring proper system functionality according to safety regulations and industry standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:
•Installation: Installing new commercial refrigeration systems, including connecting components, wiring, and mounting structures.
•Maintenance: Performing routine inspections and servicing of refrigeration systems to prevent breakdowns, such as cleaning condenser coils, checking refrigerant levels, and lubricating moving parts.
•Repair: Diagnosing malfunctions in refrigeration systems by analyzing symptoms, using diagnostic tools, and identifying faulty components.
•Refrigerant handling: Recovering, recycling, and recharging refrigerant according to EPA regulations.
•Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving complex issues with refrigeration systems, including electrical problems and leak detection.
•Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts used.
•Customer interaction: Communicating with clients regarding system issues, repair estimates, and maintenance schedules.
•Compliance with regulations: Adhering to local and federal safety standards regarding refrigerants, proper handling procedures, and documentation.
•Parts ordering and inventory management: Identifying necessary replacement parts and ensuring proper stock levels.
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Technical knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of refrigeration systems, including components like compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control circuits.
•Electrical knowledge: Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring related to refrigeration units. Proficient with electrical/electronic controls.
•EPA certification: Valid EPA Section 608 certification to handle refrigerants/ EPA Universal Certifications preferred.
•Mechanical aptitude: Strong hands-on skills for disassembling, repairing, and reassembling refrigeration equipment
•Problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose complex issues and develop effective solutions
•Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours and be willing to be on call.
•Safety awareness: Adherence to safety protocols related to refrigerant handling, electrical safety, and working in confined spaces.
Education and Experience:
•2-year college/trade school certification or equivalent work experience.
•Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license with a clean driving record.
•Strong Customer Service Skills.
•Strong Communication skills (both verbal and written).

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
•Exposure to cold temperatures and potential exposure to chemical refrigerants.
•Primarily working in commercial kitchens, food storage areas, and backrooms of businesses.
•Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
•Occasional kneeling, reaching, lifting.
•Work in confined or tight spaces.
•Must be able to lift 50 pounds consistently; up to 75 pounds occasionally (with assistance).

Pay: $48.40 - $55.00 per hour
