Your Opportunity



The primary responsibilities of this position include:

Help to ensure the quality of program delivery by contributing to the successful operation and supervision of Recreation Programs at Kelso including:
+ Ways of the Woods Day Camp + Challenge Course + Teambuilding Activities + Wellness Series + Mountain Bike (MTB) School/Race Series + Special Events
Coordinate pre-program efforts including assisting with launch and set up as required
Coordinate staff, activities, and supplies as required by the weekly schedule
Serve as an on-site resource for Recreation Programs staff, including preparation for activities, clean up, sanitization of facilities and equipment, first aid, or responding to parent questions, comments, and concerns
Provide initial training and on-going mentorship to the staff team throughout the season
Assist with the long-term improvement and development of Conservation Halton’s Recreation Programs by working with the Coordinator, Recreation Programs on program content, program development, staff training, etc.
Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.

Your Qualifications

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role within a Recreation or Sport setting with strong customer service being a focus
Previous experience working with, educating or supervising children in a recreation setting
Strong creativity, leadership, and collaboration skills required for mentorship of staff
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
Specialized training, experience, or certification in activities or facilities relating to Recreation Program activities are considered an asset:
+ Wilderness First Responder + PMBI – Mountain Bike Instructor L1, 2, or 3 + ACCT Accredited Level 1, 2, or 3 Challenge Course Certification. + Paddle Canada certifications (canoe / kayak)
Ability to adapt or adjust program plans to accommodate guest needs, weather, or other operational considerations
Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Point of Sale systems
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes day, afternoon/evening shifts, weekends and holidays
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, on varied terrain.
Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00. A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G2”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
Successful candidates will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
