Job Summary

Responsible for operating rear load garbage trucks on a residential route. The driver will pickup residential garbage with the help of a route helper. This position requires a Class B CDL.

Principle Duties

•

Operate the garbage truck safely and efficiently to transport waste materials.

•

Dump garbage containers, cans, bags, etc. Distances required to push containers (if necessary) may range up to 60 ft. Cans and bags may weigh up to 50 lbs.

•

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

•

Adhere to all traffic laws and company policies while on the road.

•

Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance on vehicles as needed.

•

Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, co-workers, and others.

Qualifications

•

Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class B)

•

Experience operating Class B trucks or similar heavy-duty vehicles preferred.

•

Ability to follow directions and read maps,

•

Ability to work on his own with little supervision,

•

Alert to surroundings and especially over head wires, trees, able to judge distance, able to back up using mirrors, aware of pedestrians, parked cars, and children in the surrounding area.

•

Physical requirements: use of both feet for clutch and gas pedal, climbing into and out of the truck, use of both arms and hands for steering, pushing / pulling containers on some routes, able to pick-up and/or carry garbage bags / boxes and other refuse material, bending / squatting as needed but on a limited basis. Must wear the proper personal protective equipment.
