The Rail Car Cleaner is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and proper maintenance of rail cars in compliance with company standards and safety regulations. This role requires a strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work in confined spaces. The Rail Car Cleaner will also adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Perform thorough cleaning of rail cars, including the interior and exterior surfaces, using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
Remove debris, spills, and hazardous materials as per safety guidelines, ensuring all surfaces are sanitized and presentable.
Safely enter and work in confined spaces, including openings of approximately 18 inches, to perform cleaning duties as required.
Utilize proper safety equipment and follow confined space entry protocols to ensure personal safety and compliance with regulations.
Adhere strictly to all safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participate in safety training and meetings to stay informed about safety practices and updates within the workplace.
Conduct inspections of rail cars before and after cleaning to identify any maintenance issues or safety hazards.
Report any unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to ensure efficient cleaning operations and adherence to schedules.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to coordinate cleaning tasks and address any issues that arise.
Operate cleaning equipment and tools safely and efficiently, ensuring they are maintained in good working condition.
Follow proper procedures for the storage and handling of cleaning materials and chemicals.
Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, inspections, and any incidents that occur during the cleaning process.
Complete necessary paperwork in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Previous experience in a rail car cleaning or industrial cleaning role is preferred.
Experience with confined space entry and safety practices is a strong asset (CSE experience).
Knowledge in Kosher Service Cleaning, Food grade cleaning, Nitrogen Purging, and Flaring of rail cars
Knowledge and training in liner inspections.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed (up to 50 lbs).
Must be able to move in and out of confined spaces with an opening of approximately 18 inches.
Must be able to inspect and wear a fall arrest, SABA, SCBA, and / or RPE
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures is preferred.
The Rail Car Cleaner will work in various outdoor and indoor environments, including rail yards and cleaning facilities.
The role may require working in varying weather conditions and exposure to noise and cleaning chemicals.
Must be willing to travel frequently
