JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities and deliverables meet the required standards of quality as specified by the project contract and local building regulations. This role involves the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality control processes and procedures across all phases of construction, from initial planning to project completion. The Quality Manager works closely with project managers, contractors, engineers, and inspectors to ensure that the construction site adheres to industry standards and that any issues are identified and resolved promptly.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Assurance Planning:
•Develop and implement a quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) plan in alignment with the project’s contract requirements and industry standards.
•Establish inspection and testing procedures to monitor the quality of materials, construction methods, and finished products.
•Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
•Inspection and Monitoring:
•Conduct regular site inspections to assess workmanship, adherence to design specifications, and materials used.
•Oversee testing and verification of materials, including concrete, steel, and other construction materials, ensuring that they meet required standards.
•Coordinate with third-party inspectors and auditors as necessary.
Issue Resolution:
•Identify and document any non-conformities or deficiencies in construction practices or materials.
•Work with the site management team to develop corrective actions and track the implementation of these actions.
•Ensure any defective work or materials are addressed promptly and that rework meets the quality standards.
Reporting and Documentation:
•Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, and corrective actions taken.
•Provide regular updates to the project management team on quality-related issues and progress.
•Ensure that all required documentation is completed and filed in accordance with project guidelines and regulatory requirements.
•Collaboration and Communication:
•Liaise with project managers, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure that all parties understand the quality requirements.
•Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging quality awareness and compliance among the construction team.
•Facilitate quality-related meetings and training sessions with site personnel.
Compliance and Standards:
•Ensure that the construction process follows international standards (such as ISO 9001) and industry best practices.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant quality standards and regulatory changes that may affect the construction process.
Qualifications and Skills:
•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
•Or proven experience as a Quality Manager or Quality Control Engineer in the construction industry.
•In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
•Strong understanding of construction regulations, building codes, and safety requirements.
•Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
•Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and manage teams.
•Proficiency in construction management software and tools.
•Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Manager) is an advantage.
