JOB DEFINITION

Position performs X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis and other analytical methods, procedures and activities as required (e g., Loss on ignition, preparation of XRF samples) to determine major, minor and trace elements in raw materials, manufactured products, and materials submitted by customers and clients using established methods and procedures.

Performing additional laboratory analysis work is required for the role including tests such as particle size analysis (PSA), specific surface area (SSA), moisture, sieve testing, and surface finish testing.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Performing spectroscopic analysis and other analytical methods, procedures and methods as required by test sample using computer-controlled X-Ray spectrometer including all ancillary equipment and computer software

- Weighing samples accurately, preparing them for analysis by the appropriate methods, inc fused bead, pressed pellet, and loose powder including proper use/care and maintenance of platinum sample preparation materials.

-Using appropriate calibration, correction standards and quality control criteria to reduce and quantify the data obtained, ensuring data precision, repeatability, and accuracy.

-Archiving and disposal of samples; recognizing instrumental and equipment problems while assisting with or performing routine maintenance service and repairs of instruments and equipment, as well as maintaining, and ordering supplies/materials when necessary.

-Continuous evaluation, modification and improvement of existing methods and the creation of new methods for sample evaluation and analysis. Obtaining analytical schedules and priorities through communication with plant production group, and technical staff.

-Maintains accurate, complete records of analysis, reporting findings and test results to appropriate personnel and enters data into Quality Control Database.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

-Minimum of two-year college degree in chemistry, chemical technology, or equivalent experience in chemistry, and fundamentals of X-ray spectroscopy theory.

-Familiarity with Rigaku ZSX Primus IV - WD-XRF unit and ZSX quantitative and SQX semi-quantitative software would be a plus.

-Full understanding of the use and application of quality assurance and quality control.

-Job requires an understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and application thereof to the workplace and lab activities.

SKILLS

- Mathematics and computer skills with a familiarity of Microsoft Office 365 software.

-Effective time management skills to successfully manage priorities, turnaround time and production requirements.

-Works well independently and in a team environment.

-Interpersonal skills to interact with staff, clients, and vendors.

-Written and oral communication skills to record and report analytical data, to prepare documentation i.e. SOP's and train QC technicians Diagnose and perform minor repairs and upkeep of instrumentation.

-Recommend equipment purchases and maintain stock of specialized consumables
