SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance programs and procedures to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry standards. This role will involve working closely with production, engineering, and sales teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure consistent product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Establish and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with ISO 9001 or other relevant standards.
•Develop and implement quality control plans (QCPs), inspection procedures, and work instructions for all stages of metal fabrication.
•Create and manage documentation related to quality processes, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans.
•Conduct in-process and final inspections to verify conformance to specifications and drawings.
•Utilize various measurement tools and equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
•Perform or oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) such as visual inspection, dye penetrant testing, or ultrasonic testing, as needed.
•Analyze inspection data and identify trends or areas for improvement.
•Investigate and resolve quality issues, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
•Lead or participate in process improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve efficiency.
•Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality and provide regular reports to management.
•Implement and maintain statistical process control (SPC) methods.
•Evaluate and audit suppliers to ensure they meet quality requirements.
•Evaluate and audit suppliers to ensure they meet quality requirements.
•Manage supplier quality performance and address any issues.
•Work with suppliers to improve their quality processes.
•Respond to customer inquiries and complaints related to quality.
•Generate reports on quality performance and trends.
•Ensure all documentation is compliant with relevant standards and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
•Minimum [Number] years of experience in quality engineering within a metal fabrication environment.
•Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including welding, machining, cutting, and forming.
•Proficiency in using measurement tools and equipment, including CMMs.
•Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and other relevant industry standards.
•Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys).
•Strong analytical and statistical skills.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
•Experience with SPC and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
•Experience with NDT is a plus.
•Experience with weld quality control is a large plus.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
•Minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering within a metal fabrication environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS
•ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or other relevant certifications.
•Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
•Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
