A purchaser, also known as a buyer, is responsible for sourcing and acquiring the materials and services needed for construction projects. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, managing budgets, ensuring quality, and maintaining inventory to ensure the project stays on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
•Material Sourcing: Identifying and selecting suppliers for all construction materials, equipment, and services.
•Negotiation and Contracts: Negotiating favorable terms with suppliers, including price, delivery dates, and payment terms. Also negotiating rental contracts and equipment.
•Budget Management: Managing and controlling the procurement budget, ensuring materials are purchased within allocated costs.
•Quality Control: Ensuring materials meet project specifications and quality standards.
•Inventory Management: Maintaining adequate inventory levels to meet project needs and minimize delays is a high priority.
•Supplier Relationships: Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
•Communication and Collaboration: Working with project managers, estimators, and other team members to ensure smooth procurement processes.
•Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed records of purchase orders, deliveries, costs, and coding invoices
Additional Responsibilities:
•Cost analysis: Analyzing costs and comparing quotes from different suppliers.
•Market Research: Staying informed about current market trends and pricing for materials.
•Expediting: Tracking deliveries and expediting materials as needed to avoid delays.
•Safety Compliance: Ensuring all materials and suppliers comply with relevant safety regulations.
•Risk Management: Assessing and mitigating potential risks related to the supply chain.
•Regular check repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles for the availability on jobs when needed: Making sure that all equipment and vehicles are of good working order and easily accessible when needed on jobsites.

Qualifications:

Experience:
Experience in construction, particularly in purchasing or procurement, is highly valued.

Skills:
Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills are essential. Being bilingual is a plus.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of concrete construction materials, building codes, and project management principles is helpful.
·
Software Proficiency:
Experience with purchasing software and project management software is helpful, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
