Job Summary
We are seeking a Capital Projects Superintendent to join our team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Capital Projects Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of capital projects at our open-pit mining operations. This role involves managing all aspects of the project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead the planning, development, and implementation of capital projects for the mine. Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
•Supervise and manage a team of engineers, project coordinators, and contractors. Provide direction, mentorship, and performance management to ensure project goals are met.
•Ensure that all project work adheres to the company’s health and safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements. Promote a safety culture and lead by example on-site.
•Oversee project budgets, control costs, and monitor expenses throughout the project lifecycle. Implement corrective actions if necessary to stay within financial constraints.
•Develop and manage project schedules, while ensuring timely completion of milestones. Address delays and challenges proactively to minimize impact on project timelines.
•Serve as the primary point of contact for project updates and progress reporting. Communicate effectively and regularly with internal teams, senior management, external contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
•Oversee the procurement process for equipment, materials, and services. Ensure contracts are managed effectively, and that suppliers and contractors meet the required quality standards and deadlines.
•Identify and mitigate project risks and potential issues early in the project. Develop contingency plans and manage issues as they arise.
•Ensure the project meets quality standards through diligent inspection, testing, and commissioning processes.
•Maintain accurate project documentation, including cost reports, schedules, progress reports, and project completion documentation.
•Review project outcomes and processes post-completion to identify areas for improvement.
Required Experience and Skill Set
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing capital projects in an open pit mining environment.
•Able to effectively lead and manage a diverse team, including engineers, contractors, and support staff.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
•Skilled in quickly identifying issues, evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions.
•Strong budgeting and cost control skills with experience managing large project budgets.
•Knowledge of laws, legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements
•Strong knowledge of mining operations, open-pit mine design, and construction processes.
•Expertise in project management software.
•Familiarity with relevant mining industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety guidelines.

Education
