Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. Purpose

Red Chris is recruiting for a

Project Trainer

to support workforce readiness for the

Mill Expansion, Block Caving Project

, and

auxiliary equipment training programs

, with an annual base salary between

$83,400 - $111,180

, based on experience and qualifications.

Reporting to the

Training and Development Superintendent

, the Project Trainer will design, implement, and evaluate competency-based training solutions focused on operational readiness, safety, and the integration of new technologies. The role is critical in delivering hands-on and theoretical training across operational departments—including

pit operations, mill operations, maintenance, and auxiliary equipment

—while reinforcing Newmont’s safety culture and values.

Essential Duties

- Safety & Compliance: Embed Newmont's safety standards across all training, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and site-specific safety protocols.

- Training Needs Analysis: Conduct gap assessments to identify project-specific and operational training needs related to the Mill Expansion, Block Caving, and auxiliary equipment such as generators, compressors, pumps, lighting plants, and support vehicles.

- Auxiliary Equipment Training: Develop and deliver comprehensive training on the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of auxiliary equipment critical to both surface and underground activities.

- Sustainability Integration: Incorporate ESG principles and responsible resource management into all training content.

- Collaboration: Partner with teams from operations, maintenance, technical services, and health & safety to ensure training is aligned with site goals and operational requirements.

- Technology Integration: Use In house computer programs to enhance learning outcomes and simulate real-world scenarios.

- Recordkeeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and skills matrices to meet legal and corporate standards.

- Mentorship & Coaching: Support employee development through mentoring and on-the-job coaching, particularly around safety procedures and operational best practices.

- Cultural Awareness & Inclusion: Develop culturally appropriate training for Indigenous and local communities, promoting diversity and inclusion.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with subject matter experts, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure training content remains current, relevant, and technically sound.

- Program Development: Design and revise training packages under the guidance of HR and Training leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

- Training Approval & Governance: Coordinate training review committees to validate, approve, and standardize new training material.

- Commissioning Support: Participate in vendor-led commissioning sessions to gather knowledge for internal training deployment.

- Implementation & Continuous Improvement: Oversee the rollout of training programs and use feedback/data to continuously improve content and delivery methods.


Training & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mining Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in mining training.

- Minimum 7 years of training experience, including at least 3 years in project-based or heavy equipment-focused roles.

- In-depth understanding of mining operations, including pit and underground processes, auxiliary and mobile equipment, automation systems, and mill infrastructure.

- Experience developing and delivering competency-based training using tools such as e-learning platforms, VR, and simulators.

- Strong knowledge of mining safety legislation, hazard identification, risk management, and emergency response procedures.

- Competency in data tracking and reporting tools such as Power BI or Excel to monitor training outcomes.


Certifications (Preferred)

- CTDP or similar instructional design certification.

- Mine Rescue or Emergency Response certification (or willingness to obtain).


Other Requirements

- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

- Ability to work in remote camp-based environments, including underground spaces.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of cultural awareness.


Working Conditions

- Location: Red Chris Mine (fly-in/fly-out role)

- Rotation: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off

- Conditions: Onsite in a remote, industrial mining environment
