Position Summary: SCJ is a dynamic, creative and exciting engineering and planning team, focused on civil and
transportation engineering, site design, planning, and landscape architecture. We are seeking an energetic and
skilled civil engineer to provide technical oversight and project management expertise as we develop and
execute a wide variety of projects. Typical projects may include:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence and initiative and will be able to move tasks forward with
minimal oversight. This position will require project management skills to facilitate project development and
execution, coordinate effectively with stakeholders, and supervise technical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (The intent of this list is to provide information regarding the types of duties

PROJECT DUTIES
•Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance expectations within the boundaries of company policy
•Create and execute project work plans and revise when appropriate to meet changing needs
•Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities
•Manage day-to-day operational aspects of projects and scopes
•Minimize SCJ exposure and risk on projects
•Initiate and maintain relationships with clients to facilitate successful project completion
•Set and manage client expectations
•Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate options when project challenges arise
•Represent company in project meetings
•Effectively facilitate team and client meetings
•Develop lasting relationships with client personnel that foster client loyalty
•Provide oversight of project staff
•Develop design alternatives
•Supervise design staff in preparation of PS&E
•Ensure the QA/QC process is followed
•Complete project documents – initiate and complete any required documentation to support assigned projects
•Write draft and final reports – develop draft reports in concert with other project team members
•Review deliverables prepared by team prior to executive level review and submission to client
•Track team budgets and hours on a weekly basis
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DUTIES
•Seek new clients/projects – in working with potential or existing clients, listen for, and seek out new projects that may exist or are being formulated
•Continually seek opportunities to increase client satisfaction and deepen client relationships
•Build a knowledge base of each client’s business, organization, and objectives
•Identify opportunities for client’s to utilize other SCJ services that are potentially beneficial to the client
•Participate in the development of proposals for new projects
•Participate in interviews and presentations as needed
Communication Responsibilities
•Communicate opportunities – share potential new business or resource information, competitive situations, or technology/regulatory factors to appropriate company personnel
•Effectively communicate information in both written and verbal forms
•Create and deliver engaging, informative, and well-organized presentations
•Resolve issues or request assistance in achieving resolution in a timely manner
Organizational Responsibilities
•Undertake special projects – assume responsibility for special tasks or projects as agreed upon with supervisor
•Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationships with clients
•Provide technical guidance to project staff
•Provide QA/QC and peer review of engineering calculations and designs
•Supervise work of project engineers, and CAD technicians
•Provide mentorship and training to project engineers
•Coordinate with SCJ staff and leadership in other offices and disciplines on business development opportunities and project execution
What You Bring
•A passion for serving others, communication, creativity, and a commitment to high-quality work.
•A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
•Experience and proficiency in land development and/or utility design and permitting.
•8 to 10 years or more of progressively responsible civil engineering experience.
•Strong communication and leadership skills.
•Ability to manage one or more projects, including guiding the work of project engineers and designers
•A healthy balance of logic and creativity.
•Experience with Bluebeam is desirable.
Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions
•Work is primarily performed in an office setting, with occasional site visits and inspections.
•Some travel to places such as work sites and local business errands.
•Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, phone and fax.
