Position Overview
CARIAN is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to support Outside Plant (OP) electric transmission projects supporting our clients in New Jersey. This hybrid role is based in South Plainfield, NJ, with travel to local project sites as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience in electric transmission engineering and construction and will play a key role in ensuring project scopes, designs, and technical deliverables meet standards, budgets, and deadlines. This is a hands-on engineering position with direct impact on the success of capital infrastructure programs.
Responsibilities
•Support and review project engineering scopes of work
•Oversee planning, forecasting, and execution of transmission projects
•Ensure design packages align with internal standards and external regulations
•Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders
•Review technical deliverables to ensure quality and schedule adherence
•Identify project risks and implement engineering solutions
•Lead engineering initiatives and collaborate with design and construction teams
•Support procurement of major materials including cables, hardware, and structures
•Review and develop technical specifications, drawings, and scope documents
•Assist with commissioning and qualification activities
•Mentor junior engineering staff and perform technical reviews
•Manage updates to asset data and submit monthly reports to client accounting teams
•Track engineering budgets for the Transmission Formula Rate (TFR) process
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or related field)
•Minimum 6 years of experience with electric utility, transmission, or substation projects
•Knowledge of OH and UG transmission line design
•Familiar with utility construction practices and engineering standards (ASME, NESC, ASCE)
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel and engineering documentation
•Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
•Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation for field travel
Preferred (Not Required)
•Advanced technical degree or P.E. license
•Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
•Familiar with bottom-up engineering estimates
•Knowledge of excavation, dewatering, soil thermal/electrical properties
