The ideal candidate will have expertise across various mechanical systems and possess an aptitude for leading and supporting multiple design projects simultaneously, from concept through implementation. They understand the steps, effort, and additional resources required to successfully execute their work. They can work independently with limited supervision to complete projects ranging from small with short delivery to large and complex. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. The candidate must be well organized, skilled in critical thinking, able to quickly recognize issues, and ready to provide solutions.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Works under the direction of a Project Manager or Director.

- Initiate projects: Complete project initiation documents, which include detailed work scope/outline, budget, and schedule for completion.

- Project Definition: Assist Project Team in defining/clarifying project scope and level of detail required satisfying customer expectations and projecting requirements. Maintain Project Status – Keep the project status reporting system (database) current with the actions and changes that take place on assigned projects so the overall organization is able to respond to client requests.

- Manage Project Implementation – Leads assigned project team, ensuring that project goals/objectives are achieved and all business processes and applicable procedures are followed. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering/design work for projects.

- Control costs – Assist Project Manager in controlling project expenditures and schedule performance as necessary to satisfy project requirements and ensure satisfactory budget performance on all projects.

- Maximize Project Profitability – Through appropriate project budgeting/pricing, utilization of resources and cost controls, maximize the profit margin on individual projects.

- Communicates effectively with project team and clients as required to facilitate coordination of design or construction activities and flow of technical information. This includes tracking/resolving action items, information requests and assisting the design team in the resolution of technical issues as required.

- Coordinate/Communicate with Peers – Work with project team to identify, document and resolve changes that may impact schedule and budget performance of project.

- Ensures projects are closed-out and archived in a timely manner in accordance with applicable procedures.

- Possess in depth working knowledge of mechanical systems and innerworkings – Boilers, Tanks/Vessels, compressors/blowers, HRSG, Turbines, Major and Minor Piping Systems, pumps, etc.

- Perform walkdowns and collects detailed field information related to site configuration, existing equipment data, and scoping efforts.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to perform broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.

- Possess strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to coordinate with and interface with clients, vendors, engineers, colleagues, and other electric utilities personnel.

- Possesses strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively with clients, peers, and affiliates.

- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, scheduling software and possess working knowledge of corporate accounting practices and business operations.

- Additional software skills including Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Vault, Plant3D, ReCap, SolidWorks, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.

- Possess willingness to develop, promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.

- Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA).

- Experience with Detailed Stress Analysis processes.

- Experience with Hydraulic Analysis, including pump and piping system analysis.

- Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, finding non-standard design solutions.

- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS:

- BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.

- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is highly desirable.

- Minimum of 8 years of relevant project experience with at least five years experience functioning as a design engineer on any a variety of projects.

- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including but not limited to ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, NFPA, ANSI and API.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

- Normal office environment with occasional field trips to remote or rural areas requiring the physical ability to walk over rough terrain and requiring overnight stays.
