This position is designed for someone who already understands the core aspects of project coordination and is ready to take on greater responsibility—including procurement strategy, financial forecasting, field planning, and direct collaboration with subcontractors and clients. It’s a key role for those preparing to transition into a Project Manager position through performance and experience.
Position Summary
The Project Engineer I is responsible for managing technical and operational components of concrete construction projects, working alongside the Project Manager to ensure full alignment with scope, budget, schedule, quality assurance and quality control. This includes preconstruction planning, cost forecasting, vendor coordination, field integration, project completion, final closeout and warranty. The Project Engineer I will be involved from job kickoff through final closeout and play a central role in project success.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Engineer I will independently manage the following functions while coordinating closely with field teams and project leadership:
Project Planning & Execution
•Learn, develop, implement and manage essential functions of estimating for change order processing and submission.
•Learn, develop, implement and manage detailed project work plans and procurement strategies.
•Lead or participate in preconstruction meetings to establish project logistics, expectations, and deliverables.
•Perform thorough reviews of construction drawings, engineering specs, and subcontractor scopes.
•Generate and manage material take-offs, submittals, and purchase order documentation.
•Track procurement and delivery timelines to support on-site production schedules.
•Ensure field execution aligns with technical specifications and contractual obligations.
•Support quality control and site coordination by maintaining open communication with Superintendents and subcontractors.
Scheduling & Field Coordination
•Develop and update project schedules, coordinating with field leadership and subcontractors.
•Attend weekly scheduling meetings to provide progress updates, forecast critical path items, and support issue resolution.
•Regularly visit job sites to confirm progress and resolve field-level questions.
•Participate in job kickoff, milestone reviews, and post-project evaluations.
•Assist in project closeout including documentation, as-builts, punch lists, and turnover packages.
Financial Administration Management & Reporting
•Generate and update job cost forecasts, comparing projected vs. actual performance.
•Support monthly cost-to-complete reviews and provide variance analysis.
•Help prepare and validate monthly billing based on earned value or contract-specific metrics.
•Assist in approving and coding vendor invoices and subcontractor payments.
•Monitor budget alignment and support risk mitigation through early identification of cost issues.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering (or related engineering field) or, a minimum 3 years of experience in concrete construction, field engineering, or project support roles.
•Demonstrated ability to manage project scopes from preconstruction through closeout.
•Must be willing to travel for site support, coordination meetings, or pre-bid walks.
Skills & Competencies
•Spanish Bi-lingual - Speaking a plus
•Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
•In-depth understanding of construction schedules, material tracking, and subcontractor management.
•Strong working knowledge of project cost forecasting and earned value tracking.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and project management platforms (Procore, or similar).
•Capable of reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contract language.
•Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate across internal teams and external stakeholders.
•Proven analytical and organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and accountability.

•Salary Range of $55,500-$65,000 due on experience
•Project Engineers are provided with a 30-minute paid lunch break for any shift over 5 hours, as required under Colorado law.
•In addition, Project Engineers receive a 10-minute paid rest break for every 4 hours of work or major fraction thereof, typically one in the morning and one in the afternoon for a standard full-time shift.
•Silver and Blue Concrete offers annual performance-based bonuses in addition to base compensation. Eligible Project Engineers may receive a discretionary bonus ranging from 1% to 5% of their annual salary, based on individual performance, project contributions, and company financial outcomes. Bonus eligibility is assessed during annual reviews and determined at management's discretion.

•Paid time off (PTO) of up to 5 days ((1) business week) and select company-approved holidays for the 1st year of service. Up to 10 days ((2) business weeks) and select company-approved holidays on the 2nd through 5th years of service.
•Accrual Basis: PTO accrues based on a Project Engineer’s regular hours worked. Unless stated otherwise in company policy. Overtime is mandatory with all exempt positions.
•Accrual Cap: Project Engineers accrue PTO at a rate set by the company. Accrual may be capped at 10 days (80 hours). Once the cap is reached, further accrual is paused until PTO is used and the balance drops below the cap.
•Carryover and Payout: Unused PTO will carry over each year, subject to the accrual cap. Alternatively, the company may pay out any accrued PTO in excess of 5 days (40 hours) at the end of each year.
•Separation: Upon separation from employment, a Project Enginee will be compensated for all accrued and unused PTO, in accordance with Colorado law treating PTO as earned wages.
•Usage: Project Engineers are encouraged to plan and use their PTO. All non-emergency absences should be requested in advance for scheduling approval.
•The following paid holidays are New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. On all other holidays, the company will be open for business, and the Project Engineer must be available for work.
•In compliance with the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), Project Engineers are entitled to paid sick leave as follows:
•Accrual Rate: Project Engineers accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
•Usage: Accrued sick leave can be used for the Project Engineer's own mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; preventive medical care; or to care for a family member with similar conditions. It also covers needs related to domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment.
•Carryover: Up to 48 hours of unused sick leave may be carried over to the following year; however, Project Engineers are not entitled to use more than 48 hours in a year unless additional leave is provided under a public health emergency.
•Public Health Emergency Leave: In the event of a declared public health emergency, Project Engineers are entitled to supplemental paid sick leave, the amount of which depends on the Project Engineer's work schedule, as stipulated by the HFWA.
•Notice and Documentation: When possible, Project Engineers should provide advance notice of the need for sick leave. For absences of four or more consecutive workdays, reasonable documentation may be required.
•Job Protection: Use of sick leave will not result in retaliation or any adverse employment action.

Travel and Work Location Policy
This position is based in Colorado Springs, CO, but may require travel to surrounding cities and job sites within a radius of up to two or more hours in any direction. Remote or work-from-home arrangements are not permitted under any circumstances. The Project Engineer must report in person to assigned job sites, meetings, and field operations as scheduled.
Project Engineers must have reliable transportation and are expected to arrive on time, including during inclement weather conditions. It is the Project Engineer’s responsibility to allow adequate travel time to reach scheduled locations safely and punctually.
If management determines that travel conditions are unsafe due to inclement weather, a paid cancellation or delay notice will be issued either the day prior or at least three hours before the scheduled start time. Unless such a notice is given, Project Engineers are expected to report to their assigned location on time.
When travel is required beyond the primary work location, Project Engineers may be eligible for mileage reimbursement. All mileage must be recorded on an approved company mileage form and submitted in accordance with payroll procedures.
