Position Summary:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will be an integral part of the engineering team responsible for:
•The management of capital and expense projects
•Providing technical assistance to maintenance & operations, and administrative support to the Maintenance team
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Providing Technical Expertise: the incumbent will be accountable to ensure that all projects meet safety and technical standards, either legislative or inter-company and to communicate deficiencies and solutions to responsible parties.
•Project Custody: Manage developed and assigned projects from inception to final release to department or stakeholder. Measurables include timeliness, cost, and effectiveness. Project execution & management of contractors is also a critical part of the role.
•Health and Safety: Utilizing IRS principles ensure that pertinent legislation and Company rules/regulations are built in and followed in all projects, assignments, and responsibilities.
•Environmental/Quality: Ensure that all legislative regulations and corporate policies related to environmental, food safety, and quality are being adhered to. In addition to completion of required reports and submissions to governmental agencies and auditing to confirm compliance.
•Operational Review: Determine the effectiveness and efficiency of all assets and make recommendations on improvements in processes or equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or other related technical degree.
•Professional Engineering license, or Project Management Certification, would be considered an asset.
•3-5 years post-graduate experience with some project management background
•Some project management background required
•Some planning experience required
•Multi-disciplinary experience strongly desired
•Some budgeting / finance experience desired
•Contractor management experience desired
Dimensions:
The Project Engineer reports to the Operations Manager and has direct oversight for the Maintenance team. Project responsibility will be up to $5.0M.
Nature and Source of Control:
The Project Engineer is able to make decisions on contractor selection with the Procurement team and determine safety compliance in all responsibilities. The incumbent will defer to the Operations Manager when special authorization is required on cost exceedances.
Working Relationships:
The incumbent will work closely with all departments, both managers and employees, as well as the corporate team, when required. The incumbent will have direct oversight of the Maintenance team. In addition, a close working relationship with the Controller to ensure cost effectiveness.
