We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Cost Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on all project-related financial activities. This role ensures that project costs are accurately tracked, budgets are adhered to, and financial risks are identified and mitigated. The Project Cost Accountant will act as a key liaison between project managers, finance, and senior leadership to provide clear visibility into project performance and profitability.
- Prepare, monitor, and update project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections for projects.
- Track and analyze costs against budget, identifying variances and providing recommendations to project management group and management.
- Maintain accurate job cost reports and ensure compliance with contractual and financial requirements.
- Prepare monthly project cost reports and financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide detailed explanations for cost overruns or savings.
- Support year-end audits and financial reviews related to project accounting.
- Assist with streamlining inventory management processes to reduce costs and improve overall efficiency
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and procurement teams to ensure accurate cost allocations.
- Review subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders to verify accuracy and compliance with budgets.
- Ensure timely approval and processing of project-related financial documents.
- Identify financial risks within projects and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting standards, and construction industry regulations.
- Review, analyze and/or build, implement and maintain cost models aligned to standard drivers and methodologies to reflect industry and business expectations.
- Optimize processes and inform strategic decisions through cost modelling and data analysis.
- Support compliance with client reporting requirements, contracts, and government regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional designation (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) or in last stages of professional designation.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in project accounting, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of cost control principles, financial analysis, and construction contracts.
- Proficiency in accounting and project management software (e.g., Quickbooks, power BI and other preferred).
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication abilities to effectively liaise between finance, operations, and project teams.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Full-time, remote or if located in Boston, MA, set hybrid schedule.
