Project Controller – Houston, TX (Hybrid Schedule)

We’re looking for a Senior Project Controller to join a dynamic team supporting high-profile capital projects within the energy sector. This position plays a key role in managing project cost controls, financial tracking, and performance monitoring to ensure successful execution from start to finish.
This role is not scheduling-focused but will work closely with schedulers, estimators, and cross-functional stakeholders to support planning, forecasting, and reporting efforts. Candidates should bring strong experience in cost control, Excel modeling, and SAP, along with a proactive and solutions-driven mindset.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead project cost management activities including budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis.
•Set up and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and budgets within SAP.
•Support project teams by reviewing estimates, tracking expenditures, and analyzing performance metrics.
•Manage requisitions for material and service commitments; review invoices to ensure cost accuracy.
•Collaborate with internal teams to develop and maintain project controls plans and earned value measurement systems.
•Monitor and report on project trends, cost performance, and financial risks.
•Support project reporting efforts including preparation of monthly reporting packages and senior leadership updates.
•Interface with engineering, procurement, construction, and accounting teams to ensure alignment across disciplines.
•Evaluate contractor performance and input into estimate-at-completion reviews.
•Participate in change management activities including trend logs and change order reviews.
•Ensure all administrative, financial, and system close-out tasks are completed for project wrap-up.
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree required (Engineering, Finance, or related field preferred).
•Minimum of 6 years of experience in Project Controls, Cost Control, or similar roles.
•Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, troubleshooting).
•SAP experience is required; experience with project accounting and cost tracking tools is essential.
•Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a problem-solving approach.
•Experience in Oil & Gas or large-scale capital projects strongly preferred.
•Understanding of Earned Value Management and project forecasting methodologies.
•Ability to communicate effectively across project teams and senior leadership.
