Position Summary

SERC is a reliability and security organization leading over 300 electrical utilities toward a more reliable and secure electrical grid. The Program Manager, Training is a key leader in the development and execution of the SERC Training program, implementing a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) through Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This ensures that SERC training programs are strategically aligned with organizational goals, accreditation requirements, and operational excellence. The role collaborates with cross-departmental experts to develop in-person or online courses that will be delivered to small and large groups of industry experts. The ideal candidate is an electrical industry professional with a deep understanding of critical areas of security, reliability, or operations and brings a passion for sharing that knowledge and expertise with others.


Job Responsibilities


SAT Program Management


Analysis

Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify risks and skill gaps can be addressed through training.
Collaborate with managers and SMEs to define training objectives to address identified risks and support organizational and program goals.


Design

Translate identified training needs into structured, purposeful instructional designs.
Define learning objectives, course outlines, delivery strategies, and evaluation methods that address identified risks, skill gaps, and accreditation requirements.
Contribute to a multi-stakeholder training development plan that works with internal expertise to develop mission critical training content.
Develop and support internal staff training plans to meet industry and certification requirements.


Development

Lead the creation of training content and materials, ensuring instructional integrity and compliance.
Direct the development of facilitator guides, participant manuals, eLearning modules, job aids, and scenario-based learning exercises.
Direct and develop custom content tailored to the needs of the electric industry, including eLearning courses, in-person workshop content, and instructional videos.


Implementation

Deliver training courses in-person and online through our new Learning Management System.
Ensure instructors are properly prepared and resources, schedules, and planning support effective delivery in classroom, virtual, and on-the-job settings.
Establish an efficient content curation program and support a growing curriculum.


Evaluation

Establish metrics and evaluation tools to assess learning effectiveness and program impact. Gather feedback, measure performance improvements, and identify areas for refinement.
Support continuous improvement and reporting to support compliance with accreditation standards.
Regularly assess training effectiveness, track participation, review attendee evaluations, conduct post-event debriefs, and periodically evaluate programs to identify enhancements and necessary adjustments.


Additional Responsibilities

Support periodic presentations in your area of expertise and be willing to develop new areas of expertise.
Enhance current program processes, tools, and metrics, providing updates as needed.
Work collaboratively with the SERC Assistance team to respond to stakeholder requests in security, reliability, or operational areas.
Work with the Communications, Outreach and Training team to support SERC branding and a positive stakeholders experience.
Function as the primary liaison between SERC staff, vendors, presenters, and guests to coordinate internally and external hosted training events.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Experience designing, coordinating, and facilitating training events through effective project management and collaboration.
Experience delivering training material independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, learning principles, and training assessments, and an understanding of proven adult education techniques and tools.
Proficiency in instructional design methods (e.g., ADDIE, HPI), e-learning applications (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia) and Learning Management Systems.
Strong interpersonal and mediation skills with the ability to work autonomously and with a team.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and events simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex technical information to diverse audiences.


Education And/Or Experience

A bachelor's degree in education, training, engineering, security, or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in the electric industry, with at least 5 years focused on training, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge in a critical field.

Salary/Benefits

The salary range for this position is DOE. We offer a generous PTO package; paid holidays; medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an organization contribution of up to 14%.

Standard office environment with 10% overnight travel required.
Hybrid work environment; 50/50 Split in the Charlotte office and remote work (weekly common day = Mondays); ability to travel as needed.
