Brief Description
The
Production Technicianis responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the Keys Energy Center. This role involves hands-on work with plant equipment, coordination with operations staff, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
The Keys Energy Center is a 761MW natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant in Prince George’s County, east of Brandywine.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Safety
- Follow all safety procedures during operations and maintenance, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous work permitting, and facility safety policies.
- Support plant emergency activities and communicate incidents promptly to the Control Room Operator (CRO) and management.
- Troubleshoot, overhaul, and maintain power plant machinery, including:
- Transmitters, PLCs, control valves
- HVAC systems, pumps, motors, fans, blowers
- Electrical and instrumentation systems (e.g., thermocouples, turbine instruments)
- Test, calibrate, and repair electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Coordinate subcontracted maintenance and construction activities.
- Review, perform, and update assigned work orders.
- Assist in developing and improving preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Track inventory of spare parts and consumables using SAP.
- Perform assigned collateral duties and integrate with operations as needed.
- Operate gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators.
- Monitor plant equipment status and respond to abnormal conditions.
- Ensure proper operation of chemical control systems and maintain plant chemistry.
- Comply with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
- Maintain adequate supply of chemicals and gases for operations.
- Document plant events, including trip reports and log entries.
- Provide CRO with log sheets and discuss corrective actions.
- Continuously update the CRO on operating activities.
- Promptly report equipment repair needs to the CRO.
- Support training initiatives and contribute to maintenance program improvements.
- Minimum 4 years of instrumentation and electrical maintenance experience in a power plant.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic math and strong verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with power and precision tools.
- Ability to make rapid decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Physical capability to perform demanding tasks.
- Willingness to respond to overtime and callout requests.
- Grade 1 Maryland Stationary Engineer License.
- College or technical school education.
- Experience in power generation, chemical, refinery, or industrial settings.
- Familiarity with control systems and equipment repair.
- Combined cycle plant experience.
- Strong judgment, math, and communication skills.
Summary
