The Production Engineer at Freeport LNG will play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise to support the Production Department’s daily operations and optimization efforts at our state-of-the-art LNG Liquefaction Facility in Quintana, Texas, or Pretreatment Facility in Oyster Creek, Texas. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance process efficiency, ensure equipment reliability, and uphold the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance. The Operations Engineer will spearhead innovative improvement initiatives, contribute to strategic budget planning, and actively support project management, driving operational excellence and success.
- Acts as key technical role within the Production Department
- Initiates and coordinates the development of process improvements
- Investigates equipment maintenance problems and assists the Operations teams with the implementation of corrective measures
- Leads improvement teams for the assigned facility
- Works closely with the Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering teams on equipment reliability monitoring and initiatives
- Works closely with Operations, Production Planning and Process Engineering on process efficiency and optimization improvements
- Initiates Engineering Service Requests as needed
- Conducts daily multi-discipline panel walks, to understand plant issues and challenges and assists with tracking and closure of actions
- Assists with closure of RCAs and action items assigned to the Production Department
- Develops and monitors department KPIs
- Provides input for the facility expense budget
- Assists with emissions calculations and communicates outcomes to the Process Safety and Regulatory departments
- Participates in Incident Investigations and may be assigned to lead investigation teams
- Works closely with the environmental group to understand Title V requirements and communicates and monitors improvement initiatives
- Assists facility leadership in special functions such as shutdown planning and capital and expense project implementation.
- Assists with routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with plant safety policies
- Operates as a visible leader in all aspects of safety performance and participates toward our journey to zero
- Ensures process safety requirements are met and helps drive continuous improvement
- Tracks and monitors impaired safety system barriers and develops solutions for impairment resolution
- Acts as key Operations interface on the Reliability Improvement Team
- Monitors daily process performance for the operating units and communicates improvement opportunities to operations group
- Tracks and monitors Process “Score Cards” and provides feedback to the operations teams on wins and opportunities
- Supports development of process, process safety, and environmental monitoring tools for startup, shutdown, and steady-state operations.
- Provides input for process safety items such as alarm criticality & management and PSV isolation methods.
- May represent the Production Department in risk assessments, HazOps, LOPAs, alarm management, design reviews, and other workshops as required
- Other assignments as directed by department leadership
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum Experience Required:
3+ Years of related engineering experiencePreferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Experience:
5+ Years or greater of manufacturing engineering experience (operations and/or production engineering)Knowledge of environmental regulations and strong process safety knowledge.
Previous PSM experience (HAZOP, PHAs, LOPA, MOC and/or Alarm Objective Analysis).
- Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with associated work groups/people
- Demonstrated skills in evaluating and prioritizing work to ensure alignment with the department's goals
- Strong organizational/time management skills and attention to details
