Compensation:
$90,000 – $105,000 annually (DOE)
Position Summary
The
Production Controller
plays a key executional role within our Operations team, translating the production schedule and routings developed by the Operations Manager into real-time action on the shop floor. You are responsible for monitoring progress, managing production assets and WIP, and coordinating material and information flow across fabrication, assembly, and logistics.
This role focuses on tactical production control—including nesting coordination, traveler and routing validation, WIP staging, material consumption tracking, and shop floor troubleshooting. You will work closely with Engineering, Programming, Fabrication Leads, and Supply Chain to ensure every job runs smoothly, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Execution of Production Plan•Own the daily and weekly execution of the master production schedule set by the Operations Manager.
•Release and manage job travelers; confirm readiness of materials, drawings, and tooling prior to job starts.
•Stage and prioritize work orders on the floor, maintaining alignment with shift plans and operator assignments.
•Communicate delays, material shortages, or equipment issues to the Scheduler and relevant leads to drive resolution.
Routing, Nesting & Shop Support
•Assist with maintaining and validating routings in the ERP system for accuracy and efficiency.
•Coordinate nesting activity in partnership with the programming team—reviewing cut priorities and material yields.
•Monitor WIP movement and identify parts that need re-routing, manual intervention, or corrective action.
•Support downstream coordination between fabrication and kitting/assembly, ensuring timely part availability.
Material & Inventory Control
•Track usage and movement of raw materials and WIP; initiate material transfers, adjustments, and discrepancy resolution.
•Partner with Supply Chain to ensure reorder points are met for consumables, hardware, and core materials.
•Maintain a clear and organized material labeling and staging system for traceability and easy access.
Production Reporting & Performance Monitoring
•Maintain real-time tracking of job status, machine utilization, and throughput; escalate blockers proactively.
•Capture KPIs (scrap, downtime, rework) and contribute to daily production reports provided to leadership.
•Conduct post-job reviews with leads and programmers to identify missed targets and improvement opportunities.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
•Support NCR investigations, RMA returns, and quality alerts, collaborating with MEs and QC staff.
•Reinforce adherence to standard work, routings, and safety procedures on the floor.
•Participate in process improvement initiatives—especially around scheduling accuracy, kitting reliability, and WIP flow.
Cross-Team Communication
•Serve as a vital link between shop floor personnel and the Scheduler—ensuring timely information exchange and plan alignment.
•Attend daily production stand-ups and planning meetings to communicate job status, readiness gaps, and success stories.
•Mentor junior coordinators or material handlers as needed, reinforcing best practices and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Qualifications
Experience
•3–5 years of experience in production control, fabrication support, or shop supervision in a custom manufacturing environment.
•Familiarity with job-shop or sheet metal operations (laser, brake, weld, hardware, paint, assembly) strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
•Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., JobBOSS2, Epicor); ability to edit routings and release travelers.
•Working knowledge of nesting, material optimization, and WIP staging techniques.
•Skilled with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or visual job tracking systems is a plus.
