PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Product Development Engineer will support new product development for Wind, PV, and Energy Storage products. The designer delivers new products from provided requirements through production while considering project schedule, scope, and cost (concept thru production release). The designer supports Engineering in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies as needed. Will support the development of installation and integration systems, lab systems and test beds. Will support prototype FFF (form, fit, function) as well as FAI (first article inspection) activities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work on ongoing development of new and existing product lines with moderate to high design complexity in a lead role.

- Design 3D parts and assemblies using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

- Draft 2D prints in compliance with company standards using CAD software.

- Calculate factors like tolerance and critical function dimensions.

- Prepare and review a bill of materials (BOM) for all necessary products.

- Lead design reviews for required department personnel (fabrication, welding, assembly, shipping, etc).

· Attend design reviews and provide constructive feedback.

- Check drawings with high complexity from other designers according to company standards.

- Work with product management to create new proposals based on customer requests.

- Communicate effectively with other departments including configuration management, quality, and procurement.

- Support Engineering Change Orders with high complexity by working with necessary departments to refine designs and/or manufacturing processes.

- Maintain and increase technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, online training courses, completing relevant certifications.

- Apply design for manufacturing, assembly, serviceability (DFx) best practices.

- Ability to adapt to changes in requirements, priorities, and deadlines.

- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to parts and drawings as needed.

- Setup FEA and CFD studies and run simulation with Engineer oversight.

- Incorporate structural and thermal analysis considerations into designs by interpreting FEA and CFD reports with Engineer oversight.

- Identify areas for process improvement within engineering and initiate research into implications of changes.

- Responsible for definition of design inputs, prototyping, feasibility testing protocols and the concept selection process.

- Responsible for creating and maintaining device/product specifications (typically includes 3D models and prints).

- Responsible for completion of design verification and validation activities by developing or collaborating with testing partners to develop test methodologies when consensus testing standards are not applicable. Also, includes engineering study development, evaluation, and execution, if applicable.

- Provides technical support to cross-functional team members including but not limited to technically reviewing marketing collaterals, providing product information for regulatory submissions, and making technical product presentations to customers and sales teams.

- Responsible for planning, processing, and performing all given tasks in an efficient manner.

- Manage issues and follow up with appropriate teams to ensure all issues are resolved prior to final product release.

- Detect critical issues in a timely manner to increase product quality and stability in a rapidly progressing industry.

- Provide recommendations to management concerning issues detected.

- Requires movement and transportation of equipment or samples with a high IP (intellectual property) security mentality.

- Perform work under time schedules which are normally periodic or cyclical and include: time sensitive job stress, fatigue, intellectual challenge, constant technical data feedback, language barriers, and product management stress.


QUALIFICATIONS


· Required: High School Diploma or GED

· Required: 8-10 years of mechanical design related experience

· Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in CAD Mechanical or related study

· Familiarity with SolidWorks Simulation (FEA) & Flow (CFD)

· Intermediate Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD (parts, assemblies, and drawings)

· Intermediate Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 software ecosystem

· Intermediate Proficiency with time management and prioritizing various tasks

Job Type: Full-time


Pay: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
