Job Summary:
The product design engineer will design, build, and test new products. This position will support product implementation from concept to production launch. See weberknapp.com for product examples.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
•Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
•Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components to be used in production.
•Builds models and prototypes of the product and tests the design.
•Develops concepts and creates 3D models
•Presents concepts to customers
•Inspects prototype and initial production parts
•Works with Quality Control and Manufacturing Engineering in developing production processes
•Develops and documents product testing
•Supports Quality Control and Manufacturing Engineering on current products
•Provides technical support for the Sales Department
Requirements:
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Proficiency using 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks preferred.
•Must be able to read and interpret calipers, micrometers, and blueprints.
•Must have hands-on skills to assemble prototypes and do preliminary testing.
•Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
•Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
•Must work well independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
•Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
•Three or Five years of related experience preferred.
•Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate to Jamestown, NY prior to starting. Relocation assistance is not provided.
Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
