Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting in tasks and duties as directed by the Plastics Engineer. Provides support for critical projects. Develops technical knowledge and leadership skills for future career. Will work on the production floor with injection molding machinery and be responsible for assisting with the sample of new molds, the optimization and documentation of a recommended process, and be an integral member of the Project Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Works with process engineer to develop processes for new tools. Processes will be developed using Scientific Molding Theory. Other analytical tools such as DOEs, Shear Rate Calculations, Cooling Circuit Flow Information, MOLDFLOW Results, etc. to be utilized where applicable.
•Works with support department to ensure tools, machines and processes are optimized.
•Maintain process documentation and paperwork to support improvements and efficiency.
•Performs process audits to ensure processes are running to documented and qualified parameters.
•Works with setup technician to perform changeover of tool and end of arm tooling.
•Use statistical analysis to identify root cause and troubleshooting of daily machine, tool, automation, and production issues.
•Adheres to the Quality Policy and Core Values of the organization.

Required Competencies, Skills and Experience
•Must have technical background on Scientific Molding/decoupled molding, and experience in the development of robust processes for the manufacturing floor. Needs to demonstrate a scientific approach to process development and troubleshooting of both new and existing molds.
•Needs to be self-motivated. Overall direction will be given, but the employee needs to have the desire to think through roadblocks and develop alternate courses to complete tasks.
•Highly organized and methodical/standardized in approaching challenges with new tools.
•Specific knowledge of each machinery brand is not required, but the ability to feel comfortable and to learn molding machine operations, robotic applications, and high-speed assembly equipment.
•Troubleshooting skills to determine real root cause of problems.
•Ability to communicate technically.
•High attention to detail to create accurate processing documentation is required.
Education and Job Experience Requirements
•Associates degree in Plastics Engineering (Intention of Bachelors in Plastics Engineering Preferred).
•Completion of first-year internship in injection molding or related field.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
•Subject to intermittent and changing noise levels from operating machines.
•Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
•Breathing fumes, dust, and mist
•Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid.
•Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor.
•Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
•Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently.
•Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force minimally.
•Sedentary, office environment; frequent exposure to manufacturing plant floor requiring the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., ear plugs, safety glasses, etc.) and following good manufacturing practices.
•Normal manufacturing and clean room environment.
