The Process Engineer Co-Op will work with various departments and functions to gain knowledge of the business and our culture. The Process Engineer Summer Intern will be responsible for supporting engineering activities related to lime kiln process and associated production units. This position will collect data, perform analysis and prepare reports on equipment. Expectations are to work with the Site Management team and Corporate Process Engineering on various projects, tasks and initiatives to support the plant kiln operations.

- Identify production bottlenecks, develop and execute action plans, and assess the results.
- Assist Process Engineer(s) with designs, support, research and hands-on applications.
- Provide technical support to production, maintenance, environmental, and quality.
- Monitor reliability of the processes to define paybacks for improvements.
- Perform inspections during major outages of refractory, instrumentation and prepare shutdown reports.
- Document problems related to the process or systems as seen or received from production. Review
- results with plant team to initiate, recommend, provide and/or implement solutions.
- Conduct process and energy audits to identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Track and perform raw material analysis for the best use of the available fuels and stone conducting cost benefit calculations.
- Monitor stone quality, size and gradation, understand fuel quality analysis and their impact in product quality.
- Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and manuals.
- Miscellaneous reporting as requested; topics may include heat & mass balance, downtime entry, field
- measurements, daily/weekly production and greenhouse gas expulsion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A third or fourth year student working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Self-starter, able to quickly understand and follow directions.
- Proactive, take charge and positive attitude.
- Experience in Root Cause Analysis and troubleshooting.
- Qualified candidates will exhibit a positive and proactive attitude with high initiative and the ability to perform with minimal supervision.
- Able to do limited travel to other sites and regions as needed.
- Good technical aptitude and analytical skills.
- Strong Computer Skills in MS Office.
- SAP or another ERP system experience a plus.
- Team Player and strong interpersonal skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
