Schneider Geomatics is seeking a qualified Private Utility Locator located at our Indianapolis, Indiana location. This position is responsible for designating buried utilities using advanced geophysical technologies and applications. Accurately interprets subsurface information while in the field as well as processing data findings. Applicant must be familiar with and have worked within the guidelines of ASCE 38-02. Applicant must have intimate knowledge of all quality levels within ASCE 38-02. Adheres to all safety guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities
•Locate utilities and interferences utilizing Electromagnetic Locating Equipment, Ground Penetrating Radar, and Video Systems.
•Operate Data collectors and collect field measurements of Utility Designation.
•Download field data files and prepare field sketches.
•Research utility company records and use this information to perform field observations.
•Read plans, as-built drawings and utility company mark ups.
•Positively represent the company while communicating professionally and regularly with customers on site.
•Assist Project Manager in preparing proposals for clients including a clear and complete scope of work, pricing, time schedule, and resource requirements (both TSC and subconsultants).
•Interpret subsurface information in the field and during post processing.
Required Experience, Education and Skills
•High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associates Degree or higher preferred.
•2+ years of experience in Subsurface Utility Locates
•Candidates must have the ability to research and perform field investigations of the project work sites
•Experience with Radio frequency electromagnetic pipe and cable locators and ground penetrating radar for designating subsurface utilities
•Experienced in interpreting plans and utility records. Good note keeping and organizational skills.
•Computer skills (AutoCAD Civil 3D, a plus)
•Work will be 90% local some travel might be necessary.
•The ability to effectively communicate with all fellow employees both in written and verbal format
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
•Background check and federal DOT PHMSA drug testing required.
•Ability to work in all weather conditions, carry up to 50 lbs., and walk long distances.
