Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Structural Engineer to join and help lead our growing structural team. This role goes beyond technical design—it’s about setting direction, growing talent, driving standards, and building strong client relationships. While the focus is rooted in solar PV infrastructure, this role spans diverse structural scopes and demands a deep understanding of renewable energy project delivery.
You’ll serve as a technical authority, a team mentor, and a client-facing leader, responsible for delivering high-quality designs and growing both the capabilities and reputation of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Oversight:
•Serve as the technical lead on complex structural projects with a focus on tracker foundations, solar structural systems, and foundation remediation
•Develop and maintain internal design standards, QA/QC checklists, and engineering procedures
•Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and field reports prepared by other team members
•Drive technical problem-solving on challenging issues related to expansive soils, pile performance, ad-freeze, corrosion, etc.
•Oversee post-installation testing programs, data analysis, and remediation recommendations
Team Development & Mentorship:
•Mentor, train, and develop junior and mid-level structural engineers
•Provide regular feedback, support career development plans, and help define technical training needs for the team
•Collaborate with department leadership to align team structure and hiring priorities with company growth
Client Engagement & Strategic Account Management:
•Act as a trusted advisor to key clients, including EPCs, developers, and tracker manufacturers
•Lead technical calls, design workshops, and field investigations as a senior representative of ANS Geo
•Support and lead proposal development, scoping, and pricing strategies for structural services
•Participate in key pursuit efforts and help expand ANS Geo’s structural footprint across the renewables market
Project Oversight & Delivery:
•Oversee delivery of multiple concurrent structural projects across various project stages
•Coordinate with internal geotechnical and civil teams to ensure integrated foundation solutions
•Monitor project progress, budgets, and resource allocations to meet quality and schedule expectations
•Review and support RFIs, change orders, submittals, and other construction-phase deliverables
Additional Areas of Focus:
While renewable energy is the primary market, the Principal Structural Engineer will support and guide broader scopes, including:
•Structural design for buildings, industrial infrastructure, and prefabricated systems
•Deep and shallow foundation design, including piles, caissons, spread footings, and grade beams
•Structural condition assessments and retrofit evaluations
•Seismic, wind, and snow load analysis
•Oversight of construction administration services, including inspection, reporting, and field modifications
•Coordination with vendors and manufacturers for modular equipment and enclosure foundations
Qualifications:
•Professional Engineer (PE) license (required); SE license a plus
•Bachelor’s (required) or Master’s (preferred) in Civil or Structural Engineering
•10+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, with at least 5 years in solar PV or renewable energy projects
•Strong understanding of structural codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) and geotechnical-structural interactions
•Deep knowledge of structural design software (e.g., RISA, RAM, STAAD, SAP) and CAD platforms (AutoCAD)
•Proven ability to lead and manage technical staff, including QA/QC and mentoring
•Demonstrated experience with proposal development, client management, and business development support
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and client presentations
•Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, field support, or client meetings (approx. 5%)
