Job Summary
Seeking a Civil Engineer with eight (8) or more years of civil site engineering experience and leadership skills that are searching for an opportunity to join the Civil / Geotechnical Engineering (CGE) group at American Electric Power (AEP) in Tulsa, OK. This position offers unique career development opportunities and challenging assignments across AEP’s 11-state footprint performing civil site engineering, land development, stormwater management design, and roadway design assignments for Electric Substation, Transmission Line, and Telecommunications projects.
Job Description Principal Civil Engineer - Site / Land Development:
Qualified candidates shall possess knowledge of civil site engineering principles through education and/or demonstrated project experience related to:
Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D software is strongly preferred.
Successful candidates will possess the proven ability to assess and recommend best case civil engineering solutions and collaborate with higher level non-civil engineers and other project stakeholders in solving civil engineering related challenges in consideration of safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk, and liability.
Travel (~10%) is required for this position and will consist of trips to the field to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations. Field assignments are generally within a 5-hour driving distance of the assigned office location. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Some OT may be required, as approved.
Compensation: $130,000-$155,000 Minimum Requirements: Engineer Principal:
Has typically acquired eight (8) or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in a program accredited by ABET; or six (6) years of related engineering experience along with a master’s or PhD in Civil Engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required
for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.
Acceptable alternatives are:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S.
ORBachelor’s degree in civil engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in Civil Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

$112,869.00-146,730.50 USD
