Job Title: Principal Engineer-Electrical
The salary range for this position is dependent on my experience level ranging from $114,000 to $142,000.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified Principal Engineering to lead our engineering team in the execution of critical substation protection and control system renovation projects, as well as the replacement of key equipment such as circuit breakers ensuring full compliance with applicable technical, regulatory, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing complex engineering projects, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities* Lead the engineering team, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of substation renovation projects
•Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies for the renovation of protection and control systems in substations
•Coordinate the replacement of major equipment, including circuit breakers, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
•Coordinate the preparation technical scope of works, technical specifications, data sheets, and construction drawings.
•Oversee detailed engineering design for the replacement of major substation equipment (circuit breakers, transformers, disconnect switches, bus structures, etc.).
•Manage the technical review of vendor proposals, support supplier selection, and validate third-party engineering designs
•Collaborate closely with project managers, construction, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of engineering solutions.
•Guarantee that all projects comply with electrical codes, industry standards (NESC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI), and internal technical guidelines.
•Provide agile problem-solving support, particularly in emergency situations requiring the replacement of critical equipment.
•Evaluate and improve engineering processes to enhance efficiency and quality in the context of substation projects.
•Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in substation protection and control systems.
•Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, particularly those relevant to substation operations
•Provide technical leadership in most complex projects that have a wide impact on the business
•Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills as SME for team
•Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices
•Work independently with little supervision
•Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in substation protection and control systems.
•Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, particularly those relevant to substation operations.
Required Qualifications* Required Education, Experience and Training:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
+ 10+ years minimum relevant experience
•Theoretical Engineering knowledge
•Operations and substation Engineering Design
•Practical engineering experience/application
•Operations and Engineering Design,
•Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.")
•Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements
•Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment and Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements
Preferred Qualifications* Master’s Degree Preferred
+ Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems,
+ Proven ability to lead and manage projects,
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts,
+ Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies.
+ Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
+ Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels
+ Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions
+ Where appropriate, technical, and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment.
