We are seeking a seasoned Principal AI Software Engineer to lead the development of artificial intelligence products and features in the Ener-i and Insights platforms. This person will drive the development of groundbreaking AI solutions for power system applications. This role requires deep expertise in artificial intelligence, proven experience scaling AI systems, and the vision to establish AI strategy and foundations for our organization.
How you can make an impact:
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale RAG / LLM systems for power system knowledge management, handling massive technical documentation and real-time data integration
- Drive the development of proprietary AI algorithms for complex power system challenges including grid stability analysis, predictive maintenance, and renewable integration optimization
- Architect and deploy advanced agentic solutions across multiple that advances and augment current and future software products, ensuring scalability, reliability, and domain-specific AI agents that reduce or eliminate manual and human interventions, while ensure HIL design and capabilities. This also includes AI prompt, designs, and implementation.
- Establish AI engineering best practices, technical standards, and governance frameworks for the organization
- Spearhead research initiatives to identify and evaluate emerging AI technologies for power system applications. This includes reviewing current software solutions and leading AI augmentation implementation to advance the products with AI-enabled capabilities.
- Looking for ways to augment current software solutions with AI Prompts driven interactions aim to reduce or eliminate some of the traditional UI elements, such drop-down menus, text fields, and checkboxes, etc.
- Lead the design of novel, patent-worthy algorithms for power system optimization, fault analysis, including predictive and prescriptive AI analyses and automated analysis
- Mentor and guide research directions for the AI engineering team
- Contribute to the definition of the overall AI technology roadmap and long-term strategic vision for the organization
- Lead cross-functional teams in delivering complex, multi-year AI initiatives
- Architect scalable, fault-tolerant AI systems capable of processing terabytes of power system data
- Drive and advise in technical decision-making for major AI infrastructure investments and platform selections
- Identify and advocate for relationships with key technology vendors and AI research organizations
- Provide technical mentorship and career development guidance to AI engineers and data scientists
- Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning
- Present to C-level executives, clients, and industry forums on AI strategy and capabilities
- Guide business development efforts by identifying new AI-driven service offerings
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, or related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- AI/ML Expertise:
- - Advanced understanding of machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and/or reinforcement learning.
- Proficiency in frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
- Programming Mastery: Python plus at least one systems language (C++, Java, or Go, Rust).- Data & MLOps Skills:
- - Experience with large-scale data pipelines and ML model lifecycle management.
- Deployment using Docker/Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP AI services.
- Architecture Leadership: Proven experience designing AI-enabled systems for enterprise-scale deployments.
- Communication: Ability to present complex technical concepts to executives and non-technical stakeholders.
- Track Record: Successfully led multiple AI projects from inception to delivery.
- Experience with IEC standards (e.g., IEC 61850, IEC 61508, NERC ) or other industry-specific compliance frameworks.
- Domain expertise in energy systems, utilities, or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with explainable AI (XAI), bias detection, and AI ethics frameworks.
- Contributions to open-source AI projects or published research.
- Knowledge of distributed computing frameworks (Ray, Spark, Dask).
Experience with real-time data processing and edge AI deployments.Industry Experience
- Experience with critical infrastructure, utilities, or power systems strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of time-series analysis, real-time systems, and industrial IoT applications
- Familiarity with power system modeling software and industry standards (IEEE, NERC, IEC) is a plus
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Collaborative mindset and experience working in cross-functional teams
- Distinguished research background with publications in top-tier AI/ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.)
- 10+ years of progressive AI engineering and leadership experience- Track record of successful AI product launches with measurable business impact
- Experience in regulated industries (utilities, finance, healthcare) with compliance and safety-critical requirements
- Advanced knowledge of power system optimization, control theory, and numerical methods
- Patents in AI/ML technologies or power systems applications
- Delivery: Successfully deploy at least two high-impact AI solutions into production meeting defined ROI targets.
- Architecture: Establish an AI technical architecture roadmap that is adopted across teams.
- Efficiency Gains: Improve model training and inference performance by at least 20% through optimization.
- Team Development: Mentor at least three engineers to independently deliver AI components at production quality.
- Compliance: Ensure all deployed AI systems pass internal and external compliance audits (e.g., IEC, ISO, SOC2, and NIST).
- Innovation: Introduce at least one novel AI capability or product feature that creates measurable business value.
