About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

We are looking for a Principal Advisor Governance to assist in the development and implementation of reward programs and policies. Provide technical guidance to various stakeholder groups and employees within the business.

The role requires to provide strategic support and consulting services to the business units, benefit committees, HR operations and business support teams. Reporting to the Manager Benefits US & South America in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:

Support the development of the global reward and benefits strategy and governance framework.
Ensure that plans remain compliant and consistent in the delivery of rewards to members by identifying and providing advice on any issues of opportunity areas in the business.
Research/monitor developments in reward design, systems and structures and ensure compliance with legal requirements and legislation.
Advise leaders on the policy and implementation of approved rewards strategy, systems and programs.
Provide input into the design / development and communication of reward programs, policies and systems that support the rewards strategy.
Work closely with the procurement and vendor management teams, to manage and ensure the provision of services by vendors (where applicable) meet or exceed agreed performance targets.
Work in consultation and alignment with relevant areas of the business; employee relations, and other areas of expertise; Performance and Reward and Mobility, to ensure the alignment of strategy and the consistent delivery rewards to members.
Undertake Rewards related projects and studies at the request of the leadership and keeps abreast of latest and innovative reward strategy and plan design trends and opportunities for integration into Rio Tinto.
Provide input into and update reward standards and policies as necessary.
Manage eligibility appeals and manages employee exception handling from the standard policy to provide final resolution
Provide technical support to various internal groups and committees (Benefits, Investment and Fiduciary Committees).


What you’ll bring


To succeed in role you will have:

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or any other relevant domain
Minimum 7 years of experience of working in a Pension or other Benefits management role
Demonstrated experience across all aspects of benefits gained ideally through a combination consulting and in-house roles.
Project Management and Organizational skills
In-depth knowledge of US and South America pension and other benefits and tax legislation
Very good communication skills in English, (Spanish would be an asset)
Ability to function well in a dynamic environment with many stakeholders and priorities
Strong track record of vendor management, designing benefit policy, strategy and governance programmes of work
Strong team and stakeholder engagement skills with an ability to influence across the organisation
Infrequent travel may be required
