This position is accountable for on-site commissioning activities on designated complex projects. The Principal Commissioning Field Engineer works with the Project Manager and the District Service Manager to develop and implement the technical, logistical and commercial strategy for the successful installation and commissioning of assigned projects.

Responsibilities

- Acts as the site project manager and assist field personnel on the solution of field problems.

- Prepare for and develop a thorough knowledge of installation and commissioning of each assigned project by tracking it through project execution.

- Ensure all contractual requirements are met and transfer ownership to the customer.

Degree Requirement

Equivalent practical experience in a technical background is required.

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred

Level Expert:

- Extensive experience in turbomachinery operations and maintenance and knowledge of the general principles relating to gas turbines and their driven equipment.

- Proficiency in the troubleshooting of turbomachinery and its related systems, specifically control systems and Balance of Plant equipment, is required.

- Five plus years of previous field experience and/or experience as an RFE is a strong desire.

Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.

- Explains the importance of a cohesive team effort and the concept of synergy.

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC): Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC); ability to design, implement, and operate automated process controls.

- Cites examples of PLC associated control function applications.

- Describes PLC concepts and features.

- Discusses the key considerations and issues in the use of the programmable controller.

- Explains the benefits and risks associated with the use of advanced control functions.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

Level Expert:

- Consults and coaches others on how to troubleshoot non-recurring and performance-related problems.

- Establishes best practices for distinguishing mechanical, electronic or systems problems.

- Leads in discussing alternative troubleshooting approaches and their applicability to types of problems.

- Oversees the organization and coordination of teams of in-house and vendor experts to resolve major problems.

- Develops policies and procedures to monitor problem logs, resolutions and lessons learned.

- Directs the resolution of complex, multi-component failures.

Summary Pay Range:

$120,299.00 - $180,449.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
