HTEC is seeking a dedicated PLC / Automation Programmer to assume a critical role in the engineering and design of hydrogen processing systems / facilities developed by HTEC in British Columbia. The ideal candidate will possess over 8 years of comprehensive control system programming development experience in the industrial process sector, with expertise in industrial PLC/HMI design and programming, as well as field commissioning experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, having a detailed and methodical approach to design, operation and troubleshooting, and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects are essential for success in this role.
· Lead the design, implementation, configuration, testing, debugging, and maintenance of various programmable control systems (PLC/HMI primarily) per requirements for various projects at different stages of design and operation (small scale R&D projects to fueling stations and larger scale production facilities)
· Testing - Develop and perform bench testing / simulations based on project requirements
· Maintenance – Optimize existing control logic to improve efficiency/reliability and/or updates per change requests
· Troubleshoot – system malfunctions, identifying and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime
· Implement and manage software version control, system backups, etc.
· Create comprehensive documentation detailing logic design and implementation, hardware and software configurations, and change management
· Manage software licensing for all control system related software
· Integrate HTEC control system interfaces with vendor equipment
· Deliverables to be in full compliance with company specified performance, operation, safety and cybersecurity policies
· Foster and maintain a positive culture within Engineering Team and look for continuous improvement and apply lessons learned
· Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Automation Controls, or a related technical field
· Minimum 8 years of relevant automation controls development in an industrial process environment, preferably in Canadian industrial projects (preference will be given to those with experience in hydrogen, oil and gas, but is not mandatory)
· Strong proficiency with programming PLC, HMI, DCS, SCADA systems, particularly Allen-Bradley (Logix and GuardLogix families) – others such as ABB, Emerson, Siemens is an asset
· Strong working experience with Control Narratives, Alarm Setpoints, Cause & Effect, I/O Lists, P&IDs, Loop Diagrams, Wiring Schematics, Control System Architecture Drawings (Network / Communications, PLC/DCS/HMI Panels), FAT/SAT plans
· Expertise in programming languages per IEC 61131-3 such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block
· Strong working experience with industrial network design and implementation using common industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus RTU & TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, CIP (Safety), OPC-UA, PROFINET/PROFISAFE, RS-232/-485, CAN)
· Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices and standards (IEC 62443) is an asset
· Functional Safety certification in IEC 61511 (TUV/exida) is an asset
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
· Ability to travel will be required for on-site commissioning (primarily within British Columbia)
· Independent self-starter with the ability to multi-task and to quickly adapt to project dynamics in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent interpersonal communications skills including the ability to build successful relationships, make presentations to technical and non-technical audiences and liaise with peers in industry
