Job Summary
Job Profile Summary
This job is responsible for estimating, designing, developing, and supporting automation solutions including logic control programs and graphical interfaces. This position is also responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle for both package and custom developed pipeline simulation applications, including software design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance activities for Pipeline Control Operations.
The incumbent works under regular supervision while in training until proficient and applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. Although guidelines are established, the Simulation Engineer I position requires the ability to deal with occasional anomalies.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities•Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software logic programs and graphical screens to automate functions for operations as prioritized by the business including creating and updating system documentation and training materials
•Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain training scenarios, including operating parameters and system response requirements
•Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on the documentation of application defects, enhancements and/or projects
•Consult with the users on the priorities, complexities and other impacts of the requirements. Provide time and cost estimates for proposed changes
•Identify opportunities to deploy existing solutions in other business areas (Leak Detection, Off-Line Modeling, Plant Operations)
•Coordinate and communicate development activities with other team members, infrastructure personnel, and vendors and communicate to management as appropriate
•Follow defined change control and compliance procedures associated with software development, including all required documentation and governance standards
•Interact with business users via consulting and training to assess and ensure effective use of technology solutions
•Provide assistance and analysis regarding control systems to commercial, operations, and engineering.
•Investigates methods to reduce hardware costs and labor expenses as they relate to automation.
•Provides automation solution estimates to operations managers, project teams, and others.
•Directs and oversees contract personnel in the designing and development of automation solutions.
•Provide project management, and construction oversight for assigned projects, including expansion, etc.
•Follow system documentation and training material to ensure that all projects meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
•Develop and present training on new or specialized equipment installed in projects.
Education
•Bachelor's Degree in engineering or closely related field
•Demonstrated knowledge of Python, SQL, Microsoft Office, Fluid Simulation software experience preferred
Work Experience
•Experience with modeling and simulation software (Fluid Simulation software, SPS, SynergiGas, DNV) to calculate and analyze hydraulic conditions on a system-wide network basis; knowledge of various vendor software and their capabilities preferred
•Background in Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), multi-directional flow interactions, statistical analysis, research protocols and standards research, analyze technical data related to project design, materials and construction techniques, ADL scripting preferred
•Experience with simulation applications backend design preferred
•Reading and developing technical pipeline drawings and procedures: P&ID, PFDs, PHA, etc. preferred
•Experience with SCADA and ServiceNow applications including diagnosing and resolving technical issues including software, hardware, and network problems preferred
•Experience interacting, advising and communicating effectively
•Experience developing information, conducting meetings and making presentations preferred
•Working knowledge and/or demonstrated experience of multiple development languages and/or platforms preferred
•Working knowledge and/or demonstrated experience in software development and programming concepts/techniques
•Working knowledge and/or demonstrated experience working with database management systems

•Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing in English

•Knowledge of: all aspects of the software development lifecycle methodology and basic project management concepts
•Knowledge of: basic infrastructure concepts and how those concepts are impacted by development activities
•Knowledge of: pumps, turbines, and drivers along with general operating principles and modeling techniques/data for these devices in simulation software
•Ability to: translate operating scenarios and response procedures into operational and training scenarios/environments
•Ability to: understand process flow diagrams and schematics, to write technical reports and guidelines, and to interact with and contribute to enterprise systems
•Ability to: apply math, algebra, and statistical methods
•Ability to: communicate and/or exchange information or instruction; conduct oral presentations and/or meetings
Licenses and Certifications
•Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred

Expected Salary Range
$76,000.00 - $114,000.00
