Pipelayer Apprentice, Gas

Position Summary::

Performs a variety of construction and maintenance duties, including operations of light equipment in the gas system.

High school diploma (GED). Preference will be given to those individuals with two years of construction and/or maintenance experience.

Good mechanical skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Gas Operator Qualification within one year. CPR Certification. Plastic Fusion Certification. TDOT Flagger Certification.

The ability to lift, carry, and use heavy tools and materials. The ability to climb and perform work from a ladder. The ability to safely operate a standard equipped JEA motor vehicle. The ability to safely operate specially equipped JEA construction/maintenance equipment. The ability to operate JEA field service installation equipment. The ability to orally communicate via radio and telephone. The ability to walk several miles over rough terrain. The ability to enter/exit 22" diameter accessways as well as work in confined spaces. The ability to see and read printed material.

Indoor/outdoor and all-weather conditions. Exposure to high voltage, the risk of gas fire/explosion, wastewater, and cave-ins. Location and work hours are determined by Management and may be adjusted as needed.

Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee class “A” license with a “Government Only” endorsement within six months of employment.

Must maintain an operating telephone and furnish the number to his/her supervisor and Systems Dispatch.
