Must have a high school diploma or GED and an understanding of mechanics and machinery. Must pass EEI POSS Test and the Physical Abilities Test (PAT). Must have a high degree of mechanical and electrical aptitude. An understanding of basic math and elementary chemistry is preferred. All other general qualifications relative to physical fitness, safety awareness, attendance and punctuality, and aptitude tests will be considered in the evaluation. The applicant must be willing to devote time and study toward self-improvement.

The position of a SO2 Scrubber Operator with IPL includes, but may not be limited to, the following:
Maintains safe, continuous and efficient operation of a power plant in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations and practices. Is responsible for the operation of the scrubber auxiliary equipment for the FGD system. Operates computer-controlled auxiliary equipment. Monitors operations within a control room to determine efficiency of equipment and to detect equipment malfunctions. Makes sound operational and mechanical judgments during routine rounds. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate Team Leader. Monitors, inspects and maintains operation of various auxiliary equipment such as ball mills, slurry and water pumps, air compressors and conveying systems. Performs routine checks of all scrubber equipment, including outside area equipment. Cleans auxiliary equipment and sweeps assigned areas. (e.g., cleans limestone chutes, shovels limestone, cleans floors with hoses, drains and flushes headers). Utilizes computer for work order requests, communication via emails. Compiles and records operational data on specified reporting forms.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work as circumstances require.
