Combined Metal Industries (CMI for short!) sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across North America and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again!
Job Summary
Based in the North GTA, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist will manage the full-cycle payroll process and benefits administration. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll, compliance with tax regulations, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing & Compliance:
•Process bi-weekly payroll for all employee, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
•Ensure income tax compliance, including deductions, remittances, and year-end reporting.
•Process T4s, Records of Employment (ROEs), and WSIB & EI submissions.
•Manage garnishments, wage deductions, and statutory compliance reporting.
Time & Attendance Management:
•Ensure accurate tracking of hours worked, overtime, and leave balances.
•Audit and reconcile payroll records to detect and resolve discrepancies.
Payroll & Benefits Support
•Maintain and update employee benefits enrollment and changes.
•Address payroll-related employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
•Process termination pay, severance, and outstanding vacation balances.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
•Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and upload data to the accounting system.
•Manage RRSP contributions, general ledger (GL) entries, and accruals.
•Support quarterly and annual audits with payroll and benefits documentation
Qualifications:
•5+ years of payroll processing and benefits administration experience.
•Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or related field. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification preferred.
•Experience with HRIS/payroll systems.
•Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, compliance, and financial reporting.
•Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data validation.
•Understanding of accounting principles, monthly accruals, and general ledger reconciliation.
•Detail-oriented, problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills to support a high performing team culture.
