Role Summary
The Shop Technician is responsible for the hands-on assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical control products including PLC panels, junction boxes, solar skids, metering stations, and VFD panels. This role involves interpreting Issue for Construction (IFC) drawings, assembling and wiring to specification, and collaborating with the Manufacturing Lead and Engineering team to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and compliance with UL-508A and NEC standards.
Team Interactions and Reporting Structure
•Reports To: Manufacturing Lead
o Helpers: Oversees basic mechanical support and assists in component staging.
o Manufacturing Lead: Receives daily assignments and quality expectations.
o Warehouse Team: Coordinates material retrieval per D-Tools pick lists.
o Engineering & QA Teams: Escalates technical issues and participates in inspections.
Primary Responsibilities
A. Electrical Assembly & Wiring
•Assemble and mount components into enclosures according to IFC layout drawings.
•Perform precision wiring of PLCs, relays, terminal blocks, drives, meters, and breakers.
•Terminate, crimp, and route wires using industry-approved practices.
B. Drawing Interpretation & Execution
•Execute builds according to Issue for Construction (IFC) electrical schematics, layout drawings, and conduit plans.
•Identify drawing inconsistencies or missing details and report them for resolution.
•Apply redline changes accurately under supervision.
C. Quality Control & Testing
•Conduct wire continuity checks, torque verifications, and labeling inspections.
•Support functional testing during internal QA and FAT procedures.
•Document issues encountered and contribute to correction and feedback loop.
D. Material Coordination & Workflow
•Pull material based on D-Tools pick lists; verify against BOMs and drawings.
•Maintain organized workstations and ensure 5S and safety compliance.
•Coordinate with warehouse staff for missing or replaced components.
E. Administrative Task
•Track and submit weekly project hours using Deltek and/or D-Tools as part of the timekeeping process.
Required Qualifications
•High school diploma or technical certification in electrical technology or equivalent.
•At least 2 years of experience in control panel wiring or industrial electrical assembly.
•Proficient in reading and executing work based on IFC drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
•Competence using hand tools, power tools, and wiring preparation equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience assembling panels for Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, or ABB systems.
•Familiarity with UL-508A, NEC, and industrial wiring standards.
•Experience working with D-Tools or similar engineering/drafting software.
•Forklift or crane certification (a plus).
