Operator

Machine Operator at Yuma Ethanol LLC works in the ethanol production process using the hammermill to grind corn, then cooking, fermenting and distilling corn into the biofuel. Operator’s work 12 hour shifts and rotate between day shift and night shift.

Responsibilities

· Responsible for the Hammermill(s), cook, fermentation and methanator areas including bulk chemical and enzyme storage

· Test and record all required equipment as set forth on the log sheet

· Report any discrepancies to the lead operator as soon as you become aware of it

· Conduct your work in a safe and responsible manner. Report any safety problem to the lead operator immediately

· Be familiar with employee handbook and all safety requirements

· Keep informed on hazardous conditions of any kind. Bases – caustic, ammonia, urea. Acids – sulfuric, sulfamic, phosphoric. High pressure and/or temperatures. Grabbing of hot samples – cook area, CIP. Use of hot water-flush water, steam. Chemical barrel wash- varsene, antifoam, bleach. Process equipment – hammermill screens, coupler, mixers. Chemical spill containment – acid, caustic, enzyme.

· Keep area clean (trash, trashcans, spills, general cleaning)

· Take required samples to lab for analysis

· Keep current on the status of all operating equipment, including water to pump seals, oil in pump glasses, vibration of pumps or motors, enzyme pumps, condition of CIP, listen for unusual noises, uniformity of ground grain.

· Know which grain bin is being filled and which is being emptied.

· Enzyme pumps are to be checked every hour. Enzyme rates are to be checked a minimum of four times per shift. Calibrate rates when grain rates change. Make repairs or substitutions when required.

· CIP tank needs to be adequate for further use at the end of each shift.

· Fermenters are to be cleaned as soon as they are empty. Propagators may be required to be CIP’d on a regular basis.

· Periodically the fermenters need to be visually inspected prior to CIP wash to be sure no debris is left in the tank. Listen to be sure spray balls are rotating during the cleaning cycle.'
