The Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) is located approximately 10 km south of Prince Rupert, BC. The facility receives pressurized liquid propane via rail, which is transferred to intermediate pressurized storage bullets. The propane is then chilled and moved to refrigerated atmospheric storage before being loaded onto Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) via the RTI coal jetty for export to Asia and other global markets.
As part of the AltaGas team, the Operator Tech IV plays a key role in the safe and efficient offloading of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) railcars. Reporting to the Lead Operator and taking direction from senior operations personnel, this position ensures daily operations are conducted in accordance with AltaGas safety standards and procedures.
- Ensure safe terminal operations, maintaining awareness of personal and team safety.
- Follow all AltaGas policies, standards, procedures, and practices.
- Identify and mitigate risks, consulting senior personnel when necessary.
- Actively participate in emergency response situations (e.g., fire, spill).
- Inspect railcars prior to offloading to ensure mechanical integrity.
- Sample railcar contents, analyze using chromatograph, and record results.
- Offload railcars following established procedures and verify empty status.
- Complete all required documentation and paperwork post-offloading.
- Conduct track and railcar inspections.
- Perform minor facility maintenance and general housekeeping duties.
- Support other plant activities and assist senior operators as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- 2+ years of experience in railcar loading/offloading (preferred).- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Certifications in Railcar Safety & Securement and Track Inspection Level II preferred.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Physical capability to perform all essential duties safely.
- Mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining terminal equipment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and emergency response participation.
- Experience in gas plants or power generation (asset).
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and fit-for-duty testing (safety-sensitive role).
- The shift schedule for this position is four days on, four days off, 10 hours per day, including both days and nights.
- Preference will be given to local candidates. This position is not eligible for company-sponsored relocation support at this time.
- This is not a camp-based role.
