Responsible for leading a team of employees in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant and its associated equipment.
- Maintains and ensures safe working conditions throughout the Plant.
- Ensures employees adhere to safety/health standards to include housekeeping activities, participation in accident investigations and use of root cause analysis or other methods to maintain a safe work environment.
- Responsible for overall development and training of team members. Oversees and supervises safety training of assigned employees.
- Oversees inspections and analysis of equipment, operating and maintenance problems, determine root cause and implement improvements or corrective actions.
- Ensures employees understand their role pertaining to responsible environmental stewardship and reports environmental incidents to Environmental personnel and Plant Management.
- Informs Plant Management of emergent work, liabilities and concerns relating to the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant.
- Identifies need for new procedures and assists the Operations Excellence Team with the creation or revision of Standard Work, policies or procedures.
- Responsible for communicating Standard Work, policies and procedures to the team and ensuring Standard Work is utilized appropriately.
- Acts as an Issuing Authority for the Cardinal Operating Company (COC) Clearance Permit Program.
- Supervises, coordinates, plans, directs and/or organizes plant operation activities including inspection and analysis of equipment, capital improvements, various energy production programs and/or staffing requirements.
- Coordinates planning for Operations Department activities during plant outages including developing workflow plans, requisitioning materials, scheduling staffing, and coordinating outage activities with other departments and personnel.
- Coordinates, leads and supports start-up and shutdown activities as required. Leads activities after forced, planned or maintenance outages to return the units back online in a safe, timely and efficient manner while providing updates of concerns or schedule deviations to upper management.
- Investigates abnormal operating conditions and equipment failures. Assists in formulating and executing actions required to resolve immediate equipment problems in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Responsible for development of team members and team culture, developing performance appraisal plans, documenting performance deficiencies of employees and developing performance improvement plans as required, demonstrating accountability, and participating in disciplinary actions.
- Assists the Operations Superintendent in developing and adhering to an Operations Department budget.
- Participates in the development of plant O&M and capital forecasts. Assists in tracking and controlling expenditures to meet approved financial performance.
- Works closely with Process Team members developing maintenance, predictive maintenance, operation and analytical plans for equipment and processes.
- Works closely with the Process Teams to develop process health reports for plant equipment. Assists the Process Teams in developing work scopes to support short and long-range budget plans.
- Responds to callouts as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education : Associates degree in a technical field
License and Certifications: Ohio Stationary Engineers License
- Eight (8) years of power plant experience
- Three (3) years, of the 8 years, in a supervisory capacity
- Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate with others to exchange information; and hear. The employee must be able to operate machinery, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and power tools. The employee must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, and view computer monitors; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
This position requires working in hazardous conditions such as extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms, scaffolding, poles, and catwalks. Work outside normal business hours may be required.
