Job Summary
NAES has an immediate need for an Operations Supervisor for a combined heat and power plant in Louisiana. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the facility, while supervising operations personnel and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Key Project Requirements
- Power Plant Operations Experience – Hands-on experience with startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and maintenance in CHP, solid fuel-fired, or steam turbine plants, including familiarity with carbon black handling or combustion processes.
- Leadership & Supervisory Experience – Proven ability to lead shift personnel, oversee operations, and enforce safety and environmental compliance.
- Safety & Regulatory Knowledge – Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, LOTO, high-energy systems, and emissions monitoring (CEMS).
- Supervise daily operations, including startup, shutdown, inspections, troubleshooting, switching, tagging, chemical testing, and emissions control.
- Manage carbon black combustion processes, handling, and byproduct impacts while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance, supporting corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
- Optimize plant efficiency without compromising safety, compliance, or long-term viability.
- Assist with budget preparation, reporting, and administrative tasks to support efficient operations.
- Lead training, development, and performance evaluations for O&M Technicians.
- Serve as the site representative after hours and respond to off-hour call-ins as required.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, vendors, contractors, and regulators.
- Strong written, verbal, and mathematical skills for technical communication and reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of power plant safety, high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, and confined space procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and maintenance management systems.
- Solid understanding of physics, electrical theory (AC/DC), chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid flow.
- Hands-on experience with valves, switches, controls, instrumentation, and troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (blueprints, P&IDs, schematics).
- Familiarity with boiler, turbine, burner management, combustion control, and emissions monitoring (CEMS).
- Experience with combustion processes and handling of carbon black byproducts in power generation or industrial settings.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, or kneel in plant conditions, including maneuvering in awkward or confined spaces.
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs occasionally and push/pull similar weight when required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years power plant related experience- 3 years supervisory or managerial experience
- Experience with a solid fuel fired power plant preferred
