Summary:

As an Operations Electric Supervisor, you will be responsible for the daily supervision of field operations personnel, including maintenance crews, construction crews, emergency responders, service technicians, and contractor personnel in a cost effective and productive manner. Manage and oversee company and contract crews to meet customer needs, financial targets, and all regulatory and safety requirements.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Coordinate, monitor, and optimize the daily work activity of Field Operations personnel to complete appropriate tasks as scheduled and on budget. Motivate, coach, develop, and discipline BU and non-exempt employees within area of responsibility. Coordinate and monitor the work activity of contractor personnel to complete appropriate tasks as scheduled and on budget.

- Ensure sound implementation of CNP policies and procedures that ensure public safety, maximize customer satisfaction, and fulfill statutory requirements while meeting or exceeding Division goals. Ensure workplace safety and maintain safe working conditions through field inspection of work sites and equipment.

- Maintain compliance with OSHA, NERC, IURC, and DOT regulations. Protect the safety of the public, company property, and personnel through monitoring and enforcement of work rules, standards, and procedures for emergency response, leak investigation, outage restoration, and all scheduled work while remaining fully compliant and within budgetary limitations. Establish and maintain working relationships with public safety and local municipal, county, and state officials. Demonstrate and encourage civic involvement in local communities. Communicate alerts and other important information to affected employees. Conduct company and contractor quality and assurance audits.

- Available on a 24/7 basis to respond to field emergencies and implement emergency response procedures as necessary. Electric Operations Supervisors will be responsible for supervising and responding to electric emergencies. Serve periods of on-call Duty Watch as required. Perform visual observations and ensure employees maintain current qualifications, as required, to support O.Q. requirements.

- Functional/Technical Competency Requirements Required: Solid PC skills a must. Demonstrated ability in assigning and directing work to subordinates. Ability to identify and implement process improvements. Familiarity with the Continuous Improvement Process(CI),performance appraisal process, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing customer complaints, and resolving field related problems. Ability to respond, assess, and manage emergency situations.

- Possess the necessary level of knowledge and skills in:

- Electrical & Mechanical Principles. Familiarity with basics of electrical and mechanical principles for performance, safety and regulatory compliance.

- Emergency & Crisis Management. Set of procedures applied in planned and coordinated steps for handling, containment and resolution of an emergency.

- Field Inspection. Critical appraisal involving examination, measurement, testing, gauging, and comparison of materials or items.

- Elec Delivery Planning. Written account of intended future course of action aimed at delivering electricity and related services within a specific timeframe.

- Safety Engineering. Safety Engineering assures that life-critical system behaves as needed when components fail.

- Systems Infrastructure Operations. Basic framework which supports a superstructure and is supported by a substructure.

- Familiarity electric delivery systems.



Education:

- Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with 4 – 6 years related experience and/or training desired; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Will consider relevant job-related CenterPoint Energy experience for non-degree candidates



Experience:

- 6 years of experience in Electric Field Operations, which could include construction standards, safety standards, operating and maintenance procedures, and regulations related to field activities.

- Able to communicate effectively with field employees, management and others, both orally and in writing.

- Able to express opinions effectively and convey information in an appropriate manner

- Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and working knowledge of SAP.

- Able to work with technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues and plan activities.

- Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of emergency response processes, construction, service and Operations and Maintenance manuals.

- Able to follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by the company.

- Able to recognize and handle confidential information in a discreet manner.

- Able to use time effectively to meet or exceed performance standards.

- Able to respond well to changing priorities and react flexibly.

- Able to demonstrate courtesy, tact, diplomacy, good judgment and professional conduct when communicating in person, by telephone or email.

- Able to use good judgment to solve problems.

- Able to provide a valid state driver's license and to present and maintain a good driving record.

- Able to operate company vehicles safely, maintain a record of driving safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

- Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, activities and deadlines effectively.

- Able to lead by good example, demonstrating sincere commitment to appropriate safety and technical skills.

- Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.

- Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely.

- Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently.

- Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.

- Able to demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical principles and the CNP electric system

- Able to operate Company communications equipment.


Physical Requirements:

- Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone, mobile phone or radio.

- Able to operate office equipment, including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, laptop, mobile phone, etc.

- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.

- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.

- Able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, crawl, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, use fingers and grasp.



Working Conditions:

- May be assigned and reassigned a work shift and location at the Company’s discretion

- Able to provide on-call support 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

- Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear and ear plugs, occasionally.

- Able to work indoors, in an office environment and work outdoors in close proximity to rotating and energized equipment, or hazardous materials.

- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.

- Assignment may include a mutual assistance assignment outside CNP’s normal service area

- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
